Space Jam 2 Trailer Has Major Ready Player One Vibes

Space Jam 2 Trailer

The brand new Space Jam 2 trailer has some Ready Player One vibes with a Looney Tunes Twist.

Space Jam 2

The first Space Jam 2 trailer has dropped today ahead of its July release as we see LeBron James joining Bugs Bunny in a sequel to the 1997 Michael Jordan classic.

Going in a pile of more sequels/movies we didn’t need in 2021 such as Zack Synder’s Justice League and Godzilla Vs Kong we see this rather odd and absolutely far out sequel which already feels like it’s going to be a bit much.

The original had heart, it had a love for its characters and was a classic.

One of the first films I ever watched and was genuinely invested in.

I remember going to my local video story and renting the same film on VHS at least 4 or 5 times.

It was a film that I could turn on and instantly be transported to another world and fall in love with the characters both human and cartoon.

My love for the Chicago Bulls came from that movie and I remember my dad bringing me back a Chicago Bulls coat from America and all the kids at school thought it was sick.

This far-out American varsity coat with a giant Chicago Bull on the back.

I was the coolest kid in the playground.

Instead of proud feelings, I can’t imagine the sequel will have the same impact not only on me and my nostalgic childhood but kids growing up.

It already (from the trailer alone) looks to be missing the heart that the original had gone with to a more computer / Matrix twist with Don Cheadle running the show as the antagonist.

The synopsis reads as follows:

This transformational journey is a manic mashup of two worlds that reveals just how far some parents will go to connect with their kids.

When LeBron and his young son Dom are trapped in a digital space by a rogue A.I., LeBron must get them home safe by leading Bugs, Lola Bunny and the whole gang of notoriously undisciplined Looney Tunes to victory over the A.I.’s digitised champions on the court: a powered-up roster of professional basketball stars as you’ve never seen them before.

It’s Tunes versus Goons in the highest-stakes challenge of his life, that will redefine LeBron’s bond with his son and shine a light on the power of being yourself.

The ready-for-action Tunes destroy convention, supercharge their unique talents and surprise even “King” James by playing the game their own way.

We’ve only seen brief glimpses of dialogue and LeBron comes across as wooden as the planks he steps on at game time.

I mean, he’s the best in the game right now (in my opinion) but as far as acting goes.

Maybe a few more pet projects before jumping in and trying to jump-shot an already Slam Dunk original.
