Love your football as much as I do? Then check out my 3 must-see movies for football fans!

Fans of football will wish to extend their love of the sport into their free time and some may want to indulge in watching a few football-related films when their favourite team is not playing.

Luckily, there are quite a few football films (for both the UK and US audience) to keep you satisfied between seasons.

However, that does also mean that you need to figure out which football films are worth your time.

We’ve left Green Street and Football Factory and the hilarious Hooligan Factory off of this list to appeal to a more ‘family-friendly-ish’ demographic of football lovers but they’re certainly two of my favourites!

Well worth checking out if you’re a bit older.

Do you want to know which football films are worth a watch? If so, read on for a few suggestions.

1. Mean Machine

Mean Machine

This is a favourite film for many, as it combines football with comedy. It is an easy and enjoyable watch while showing the spirit of football in all its glory.

The premise of Mean Machine is that a retired footballer and former captain of the England team is sent to prison after an unfortunate encounter with the police.

While in prison, the footballer creates a team with the other inmates so that they can compete against the wardens.

You’ll find yourself on the edge of your seat while watching Mean Machine. And once you’ve watched this film, you may be tempted to bet on and watch live football games online, too!

2. The Longest Yard

Now, the premise of The Longest Yard is much like Mean Machine. And if anything, The Longest Yard was inspired by Mean Machine as it came a few years after the latter.

Before you start watching The Longest Yard, it would serve you well to know that it is a film that follows American football.

However, this is still an enjoyable and exciting film that stars Adam Sandler and a few former American football players.

You will end up supporting and cheering on the inmates and disliking the wardens during this film, so be prepared to get into the football spirit!

3. She’s the Man

She’s the Man is a classic film choice amongst teenage girls who grew up in the ‘00s, and although this film is considered a mixture between romance and sport, it does follow a young girl whose dream is to become a professional soccer player.

She’s the Man has a star-studded cast; however, the cast were not at the peak of their fame when this film was released.

You can expect to see Amanda Bynes playing the lead Viola, while Channing Tatum plays the male lead.

What makes this film even more enjoyable is the fact that this is a modern-day retelling of Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night.’

Football is an exciting sport, so when your team isn’t playing or the season is over, you may be at a loss.

That being said, there are many football films for you to enjoy.

The above-mentioned films can be a great and fun way to pass the time while you also get your football fix.
