After trawling the internet I spotted that Betway Casino had analysed what truly makes a great book-to-film adaptation.

From such novels as Ian Fleming’s James Bond that has spawned not only countless movies but a franchise that will forever stand the test of time, a true British cinematic and cultural icon.

With big films come bigger sales of the source material on which it is based upon.

Books such as Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Alice in Wonderland and The Hobbit were already iconic but add complementary features to them and global stardom ensued.

Harry Potter is a seven-book series, Lord of the Rings a three-book series and The Hobbie is one novel drawn out into a three-part movie.

The films not only help the book but provide merchandise lines, comic con events and even in Harry Potter’s case a whole attraction dedicated to the sets and props of the films themselves.

Harry Potter Still

An attraction that opened at Leavesden studios in 2012 and is still as busy now as it was back then!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II is the highest-grossing book to film adaptation of all time raking in $1.34BN.

There was no way on earth the film was going to fail with so many great features behind it and the cliffhanger of part 1 leaving even a wishy-washy fan of Harry Potter curious to see how it all ended.

Whilst no Harry Potter film features in the Top 10 Best-Rated film adaptations research that Betway undertook three of them feature in the Top 10 Highest Grossing book to film adaptations.

Shawshank Redemption

The Highest Rated list is taken from Google with The Shawshank Redemption absolutely blowing away the competition with a solid average 9.3/10 rating.

Lord of the Rings Return of the King is a far down second with an average of 8.9/10.

The evidence was clear and suggested that whilst films may be more popular than books, it only takes a solid book series to ensure that the movie remakes thereafter are a financial hit.
