Today the official Saw account posted the release date for the next chapter of the Saw franchise as the Saw XI release date has been penned for September 27th, 2024.

After the incredible success of Saw X which took place between Saw and Saw 2 in the franchise timeline it was inevitable that there would be another film in the franchise greenlit immediately.
Saw X very quickly became one of the best-reviewed movies of the franchise as the film humanised John Kramer’s character and hit emotional notes that just haven’t been featured in Saw films before.
All of these newfound emotional notes still didn’t distract from the gory fan service and twisted traps but as a result of its great reviews Saw X went onto gross nearly $108 million worldwide after costing $13 million to make.

The desire for Saw films on the big screens never seems to die as fans clamber for their scary movie fix on the big screen.
It just isn’t Halloween without Saw but I’m unsure of where in the timeline Saw XI will take place.
Will it be a direct sequel of Saw X and still squeeze itself into the timeline between Saw and Saw 2, will Saw XI be placed between Saw 2 and Saw 3 as John progressively gets worse and then becomes bedridden?
Or will Saw XI explore other aspects of the franchise that will add more context to some of the more unexplained aspects of the Saw conundrum.

While speaking in an exclusive interview with The Direct’s Russ Milheim, Saw X director Kevin Greutert revealed the potential of Saw 11 coming to fruition.
He said:
Well, you know, I know the people involved well, and they’re ordinary humans. And if this film makes a lot of money, they’re not gonna leave money on the table if there are future directions to go.
I mean, when you say, though, that this film leaves open threads, it doesn’t necessarily answer a lot of questions that are cliffhangers for the other episodes. But for this one, some characters live and we don’t necessarily see what happens to them after that.
I’m hoping that the audience does want to know what happens to them after that and that we someday can make another ‘Saw’ that does answer it because I love these characters.
If I had to choose any of the options above I feel as though a direct sequel to Saw X would make the most sense with that particular film ending on a cliffhanger of its own.
The loose ends need to be tied up and the film could directly tie into Saw 2 and further extend the picture that Saw X has painted for us beforehand.

With a certain character making an end credits cameo I wouldn’t be surprised if he was a main focus of Saw XI, with recent mumblings at numerous comic con appearances this looks like the most likely outcome at this very early stage.
Writers Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger had already expressed an interest in having a film focused on this returning fan favourite character but they have confirmed that they will not be penning this latest chapter in the franchise.
When Lionsgate send us over further information regarding the upcoming sequel announcement we’ll be sure to update this page accordingly.
