Tarot Review: A Film That Needs a Reshuffle

Tarot Horror Movie Review

I feel as though more horror movies are being churned out in the cinema lately than any other genre and after the highs of Abigail gave me hope for this year’s slate it’s sadly films like Tarot that bring me very quickly crashing back down to the earth with a thud.

Tarot Horror Movie

Friends unwittingly unleash an unspeakable evil trapped within a cursed deck of tarot cards. One by one, they come face to face with fate, racing against death to escape the future foretold in their readings.

I’ll keep this Tarot review as short and sweet as I can.

Tarot revolves around a group of friends who violate the rules of Tarot readings where you must NEVER use someone else’s deck. As a result, they unleash evil trapped within cursed cards and come face to face with their own demise foretold in the card readings.

A poor trailer didn’t really give me much hope before going into this film and well, it certainly wasn’t the hope that killed me as this boring, bland and unoriginal movie had me aching for it to finish the moment it began.

Loud noises, strange figures heading towards the camera and a complete rip-off of Final Destination and with Gen Z as the target I’m rooting for them all to be picked off one by one. Funnily enough, this was the only reason I managed to watch it until the end.

Character deaths play out great and sometimes even imaginative which certainly filled the lulls in this 2024 bore fest but I can’t quite wrap my head around anything else positive about this particular movie.

At 1 hour and 32 minutes runtime it came in at the perfect time for me to enjoy a film (I love the 90-minute sweet spot) but sadly for Tarot it’s a film that’s going to struggle at the box office, receive mediocre reviews and be on a bargain horror shelf mere weeks after its release.

With as many card-related puns as my tiny brain can muster, I can put Tarot quite simply as a movie that needs a big reshuffle.
