Plied and Prejudice Review: A Campy Good Time

Plied and Prejudice Vaults

Darlings, leave your decorum at the door and prepare to get utterly, delightfully sloshed on Regency ridiculousness! Plied and Prejudice kindly invited us down to their VIP night in exchange for our honest review and honest you shall get!

Crash landing in London like a gin-soaked meteor this Australian show is now taking up residence at The Vaults in London.

Champange Reception
Champagne – The Press Night Key to a Good Review (I’m joking)

Want me to admit something before this review has begun?

I’ve never seen the movie!

*Gasps, Faints*

So straight off the bat I’d highly suggest watching the film before seeing this as whilst there are universal jokes throughout quite a lot of the show has more ‘fan service’ jokes that had myself and my friend looking dumbfounded at each other wondering what on earth was going on.

Entrance

With the colourful bright sets, the lovely bar area and the campy atmosphere blossoming like a giant rainbow, this venue was missing one thing and one thing only, Elton John.

Five actors playing twenty characters was chaotic but the cast was so wonderfully charming and the two gentlemen in particular were certainly getting the biggest roars of the evening as they interacted with the crowd and encouraged us all to film the show and order more drinks.

Having table service whilst watching this chaotic ensemble was a wonderful addition and hats off to the staff for working their socks off to ply us all with a beverage or two.. or three… or four.

The Vaults London

I did find that after quite a few drinks I didn’t need to watch the film I was merely content with sitting down in a snazzy room and watching mayhem unfold around me.

Etiquette and Jane Austen’s class go straight (probably the only thing about this play) out of the window as this innuendo-bingo-filled display is a riot.

Whilst I did feel lost at numerous points of the show you just couldn’t help but laugh at how the actors were swapping characters and really selling the roles.

Plied and Prejudice Show

Lighting and sound were superb considering the show is located within a leaky underground tunnel and a multicultural audience all came together to enjoy this rather strange yet wonderful show.

It was a fever dream it really was and I didn’t quite know how to feel when I exited the show. I had a good time despite being confused throughout (WATCH THE MOVIE!) yet the sheer off-the-rails delivery and rogue off-source material antics were somewhat endearing.

It’s certainly one way to spice up an old dusty book that’s for sure.

Show Plied and Prejudice

Grab a cocktail, get yourself plied and enjoy a rather gleeful and confusing romp that had this very straight 33-year-old man feeling camper than Christmas.

What I will say is that they probably need to get rid of the pin badges on sale, as an avid Temu shopper I know those pin badges cost 0.70p and seeing them resold for £6 was certainly not a good look but if that’s my only negative, that says all you need to know!

Cheers, darlings!

Plied & Prejudice runs at The Vaults in London Waterloo until July. Tickets available from https://pliedandprejudice.com/london/
