Office Romance Review: A Heartfelt Fun Romantic Romp

Office Romance Poster

I’m still that person who cannot look at Brett Goldstein without thinking about his iconic Roy Kent character from Ted Lasso, a character with a stick firmly up his ass and the personality of a brick wall. Office Romance thankfully changed all that!

Stepping into the role of Daniel Blanchflower, Brett still has that rather stiff awkward demeanour to him (quite literally in one hilarious scene) but there’s also enough within the character to add a new dimension to his range and to quite easily level up this rather simple (on paper) romantic comedy.

Office Romance focuses on Jackie Cruz (Jennifer Lopez) who is the CEO of Air Cruz and Daniel Blanchflower as her new attorney and the more time they spend together the more they are resisting their urges due to the company’s strict ‘no relationship’ policy but despite their best efforts love has other ideas.

Normally I scoff at most romantic films released nowadays that try to mimic much better films that have been released previously but Office Romance just sort of clicks. The chemistry between Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein is palpable and the comedic moments give the film more of a well-rounded finish and a heart with the emotional moments really nailing down what a surprise hit this is.

Netflix and romantic comedies have never really hit it off for me but Office Romance is certainly the exception to that and despite it being a film we’ve all seen before there’s something that feels fresh about the movie that I just can’t quite put my finger on.

No matter how much cheesiness is within this film and the usual tropes of romantic comedies it still seems to stand out and be rather charming in the same breath. It feels almost relatable as we can all act a little goofy around the person we like, feeling and love make us all do some crazy stuff!

There’s some hilarious gags including British humour and a rather funny scene where Jackie’s love of all things Britain really comes alive and quite a few laugh out loud moments which endear you more into the charm and whimsy that Office Romance has in spades.
