Is This Really the End of The Transformers Franchise?

The fifth film in a franchise that should have probably ended 3 films ago is just another indication of the public telling Hollywood that they really couldn’t give a sh*t anymore about Optimus Prime and his band of metallic brothers.

Everyone loves a movie explosion but having them forced down my throat at every turn just to make my mouth drop gets tiring during one movie, let alone spread across five movies..

The fifth installment in this rusting franchise, Transformers: The Last Knight, earned just $13.49 million on Friday. For the opening few days that Transformers: The Last Knight has been out, the first Transformers movie earned that total on it’s first day!

Whilst these numbers are still impressive in terms of, yes i’d love $13 million in my bank account, it’s clear to see that in terms of recouping budget and making profit that it’ll take a little longer than it should for The Last Knight to do so.

Transformers: The Last Knight has received negative reviews and rightly so in this rather fatigued franchise. In addition, from a Marketing perspective they really didn’t seem to push it a great deal other than trailer content that lacked some serious Optimus Prime promotional power.

There wasn’t a great deal of variation between the trailers with all reused and recycled shots being used way too often and it just didn’t feel new, fresh or interesting when subsequent trailers hit. Lets be honest even Optimus Prime featuring more heavily in Paramount’s marketing materials probably wouldn’t have helped anyone out there to like it any more than the level they do currently.

Will it really be the last Transformers movie? That’s once again another question we’ll have to wait and find out in addition to the future box office success of this dull, haggered franchise. Whilst the total of has risen to $69.1m over the weekend, it’s still the lowest opening the history of the franchise. Send Optimus and the gang to the scrapyard and let’s have something new and unique eh. Just a thought…
