We all loved the days when a teacher would come into a lesson and ask two of the students to wheel the television to the front of the class. However, we only got to enjoy these days towards the end of the term.
However, as years have gone by, there is now a tonne of readily available films and movies that it’s recommended you show your students. These films can not only inspire your students but will also educate them on subjects or in life lessons. Here are some of the best.
Good Will Hunting
In this classic, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck (and the late Robin Williams) star in this tale about a genius mathematics student who struggles to come to terms with his past, while trying to make friends while setting himself up for his future.
Dangerous Minds
A story of a teacher, previously a marine in the US, changing to a rather interesting style of teaching after she experiences some difficult children.
Schindler’s List
Another classic tale where a businessman risks his life and freedom to save thousands of Jewish people from Nazi Germany. This is a classic from Spielberg that will educate, inspire and revolutionise its viewers for many years to come.
Super-Size Me
A documentary in which one individual (Morgan Spurlock) only eats food from McDonald’s for just 30 days. Your students will be genuinely shocked at the results from just a couple of days.
Trevor Reeves, the movie reviewer at Write My Essay, states;
“Super-Size Me is one of those movies/documentaries that everybody should see in their lives. It answers, in full detail, what happens when you live solely on fast-food and is an infamous production for opening the eyes and perspectives of everyone who views it.”
Fahrenheit 451
Set in a dystopian future, a firefighter burdened with the task of burning literature consequently reads a few, resulting in him gaining a completely new perspective on the world he lives in.
The Pursuit of Happiness
An incredible, based on real-life, a story where one individual, Chris Garner (Will Smith) takes himself from rags to riches, only using dedication, motivation and hard-work. You’ll instantly be able to communicate the message of never giving up with this production.
School of Rock
This is a film that never fails to impress or to catch a laugh. Jack Black takes on this all-star cast as a class who wants to make it in the world of rock and roll. A truly inspirational story that will touch the hearts of all of your students! Beckie Robbins, the screenplay editor for Ox Essays, exclaims; “School of Rock is one of those famous classics that never gets old. Teachers can relate, students can relate, and it holds as much meaning as it does value, comedy and inspiration.”
Lean on Me
A story about an incredibly strict principal of a school, ruling with somewhat of an iron fist. In the end, connecting with both their students and their teachers. A truly inspirational film when it comes to discipline and change. This film is also based on a true story.
Stand and Deliver
My final inspirational film is one based on a true story, telling the tale of how real-life Jamie Escalante left his profession to teach maths at a truly underrated school. Another rags to riches tale dramatising how hard work and determination and get you to where you want to be.
Food Inc
One of the leading documentaries when it comes to how corporations and business have taken over the modern food industry, leading the average diet to be anything but healthy.
