Besetment stars Abby Wathen (The Bay) as Amand, a young woman who takes a hotel position in a small town where she ends up fighting for her life.
Struggling and desperate for a job, takes a position at a hotel in a small town in Oregon. It’s a creepy, back country kind of town but owners Mildred Colvin and her son Billy seem nice enough at first. It’s not long before Amanda discovers their real intentions, and her struggle to make a living becomes a nightmarish fight for her life.

A film that you expect to be terrible then proves you wrong within minutes is always a Horror film I look forward to receiving. I went in expecting this movie to fail and ended up being captured by a smooth flowing plot, some seriously sick uncomfortable scenes and a stellar acting performance from Marlyn Mason.
Besetment is director Brad Douglas’s first directorial debut and it’s clear to see that Brad has a great vision, a warped mind and gets the best performances out of his actors. The script deliverance was very classy and you’d easily think Brad had been Directing films his whole life. At no point throughout this movie was I bored (when I thought I would be). At no point throughout this movie did I lose engagement with the cast and story. It’s a sick, twisted and brilliant little Horror movie.

When Amanda arrives at her new job at a small hotel she’s greeted with the lovely (at first) Mildred (Marlyn Mason) and her strange son Billy (Michael Meyer). What starts out as an innocent job slowly turns sinister after a night of celebratory ‘welcome to the team’ cocktails night. Amanda wakes up the following morning with no recognition of the night before, but it’s too late. The deed has been done and the cogs are set in motion for a crazy ride.
Fast flowing, direct and straight to the point Besetmet doesn’t beat around the bush. The sinister event happens rather early on and comes without warning. Now we just sit back and watch the terror unfold before our very eyes.

With scenes that make you feel a bit uncomfortable, to say the least, mixed with good performances, Besetment is a nice little Horror movie that never feels like it’s punching above it’s weight. The only negative I can say about this movie is that it has a rather stupid ending. An ending that feels out of place and has a more dark humour tone about it. This strangely off-genre ending ruined the tone of the movie for me but it’s forgivable. A good little movie for a rainy day and one to watch if only for Marlyn Mason’s superbly diverse performance. Certainly a film I’d purchase on DVD when it is released this September.

Summary
A sick, twisted and brilliant little Horror movie. A film that makes you squirm for all the wrong reasons and an intense performance from Marlyn Mason keeps you gripped and interested throughout. A nice little Indie Horror gem.
