Haunt (2019) Review: The Perfect Horror Night In

Haunt Movie

I think I’m becoming quite the sucker for haunt movies. I was head over heels in love with Hell Fest and when I heard that Eli Roth was involved in the 2019 movie Haunt I had to check it out.

The story quite simply revolves around a group of friends who go through a Halloween Haunt only to be hunted by the characters inside.

That’s it, that’s the story. That’s all you need to know from start to finish.

The premise is nothing new, there’s absolutely zero plot or character arc of any kind. No one is really relatable or even likeable.

This is a movie for the fans who root for the killers in films. The fans who want to just see a good ol fashioned horror show.

Merciless killing and hunting on-screen whilst enjoying the finer details.

The kind of film made for fans who will be amazed at the detail of the haunted maze itself, the characters within the maze, the set pieces and the incorporation of an escape room midway through the maze.

Little nods and winks to modern haunt culture that has taken the US by storm and is slowly (thankfully) infecting the UK every Halloween season.

Haunt is the perfect horror night in. There are enough tense moments and genuine spooks to keep even a veteran horror fan intrigued.

The film gives you exactly what you expect and we should all as horror fans celebrate this as much as we did Hell Fest.

The details and effort the production put into making the house is commendable.

I only wish this was a real maze that the public could go through!

It’s so intricate, so detailed and with so many nods to horror movies to keep you wanting more.

The films greatest strength lies in the maze detail. Similar to the immense scale that Hellfest put into their set-pieces Haunt does not disappoint in that department.

The vague motives of the antagonists are rather annoying thou however as it makes the film seem somewhat unfinished.

There are many loose ends that aren’t tied up. We have no idea why they’re doing it by the time the credits roll. Something to do I guess?

Other than that, you really can’t go wrong watching this movie around the Halloween season.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one!

Summary

The devil is in the detail and whilst Haunt has no real plot or arc to speak of the detail that has gone into providing a simple yet effective horror movie just has to be commended. Nothing too complicated, just good ol fashioned horror and that’s all we could ever want and more
