Flamingo Land 2019 Review: A Fun and Thrilling Day Out!

flamingo land review

Considering 2019 seems to be the year of theme park tours, it was time I crossed Flamingo Land Resort off my list. Here’s my Flamingo Land 2019 review!

I can’t believe it has taken 28 years for me to step foot in this park, combining a zoo and a theme park with great effect. Check out my Flamingo Land 2019 review below!

Lion Sleeps Tonight

The sun was shining on a wonderful September day, we arrived at the park and the car park was empty. We genuinely thought the park was closed but no. We had come on a rare off season day where we basically had a theme park and a zoo all to ourselves!

This gem of a day allowed us to walk-on every single ride all day without a queue (or another non staff member) in sight. The perfect day for this theme park review!

Flamingo Land Layout

Flamingo Land Entrance

Upon entry into the park there are numerous stalls, bars, loungues to chill out at. This was a nice little welcoming to our private little theme park experience.

I can imagine on weekends this courtyard is packed, with it’s pirate ship stage and numerous stalls around it’s the perfect place to chill out, grab a bite to eat and a pint to drink!

Flamingo Ride Rides

I will say however that throughtout the day we were ambushed by wasps. This seems to be a regular event as mentioned on the parks TripAdvisor page.

Whilst it wasn’t as bad as people were making out in the online reviews it didn’t help that I brought a sweet cider and invited them to come take a sip with me. I brought that one on myself. When we were having food, waiting for rides etc there was no issue with the wasps.

Rides

The park is well laid out with all of the rides being very close together. The park is currently in the process of building a new Intamin 10-loop coaster and the construction work was taking place whilst we were there.

This new coaster looks to be almost identical to Collosus at Thorpe Park with a modern twist.

I’m very much looking forward to returning in 2020 and riding what looks to be quite the epic coaster. A perfect addition to a park that is in need of a few more big coasters I feel.

Rides

What I did enjoy about the rides at Flamingo Land was the vibrancy in colours. Each ride had it’s own eye-catching colour scheme that certainly matched the fun atmosphere.

This almost water-park like colour scheme was certainly a stand-out feature of the park and also tied in wonderfally with the zoo next door.

Flamingo Land Zoo

Flamingo Land Zoo

From tigers to Lions, Zebras to Giraffes the zoo was much bigger than I was expecting.

I was praying the zoo wasn’t as small as the one at Drayton Manor and thankfully it wasn’t upon arrival.

The tiger enclosure was a little too small for my liking still thou but the rest of the enclosures weren’t too bad.

Zebras and Giraffe

What is brilliant about the zoo is a little monorail that takes you around a small portion of the park. This gives you a good vantage point over a few animals and the Lost River Ride.

A water ride that takes you on a safari around the animal enclosures before taking you up a lift hill and throughly soaking you.

Penguins

There are regular animal experiences you can purchase such as feeding the penguins and a meerkat experience. You can find a full list of these experiences on the Flamingo Land Website HERE.

Flamingo Land Rides

Offering up some unique ride experiences, Flamingo Land certainly has tailored it’s park to more junior rides. With many flat rides for children, mini-coasters, driving experiences and more this is certainly a place that caters more for children.

Zooom

Zooom had you in the cockpit on this lovely inverted flying coaster. Fun for all the family this one!

Twistosaurus

Flamingo Land is the perfect day out for little thrill seekers and Twistosaurus certainly span more than I thought it would for a kids ride.

You’re given two laps of the track and we got a good little spin going on the second lap!

Kumali

Kumali Rollercoaster

One of the tallest coasters in the UK is the Vekoma suspended coaster Kumali. Not being a big fan of the rough, whiplash inducing Vekoma coasters such as Infusion at Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Odyssey at Fantasy Island I wasn’t looking forward to this one.

The colour scheme was really eyecatching with a sandy, jungle style theming to it but after the ride, I was suprised.

It certainly wasn’t as rough as I was expecting and the hangtime at the top of the lift hill was impressive.

The harnesses were lovely and comfy but I still hate suspended coasters without a floor under your feet as you ascend.

My fear of heights comes truly into play whenever my feet are just dangling from a ride.

Mumbo Jumbo

Mumbo Jumbo Ride

This S&S Worldwide coaster is a very intimidating sight indeed. Full of twists, turns, dangling upside down for quite some time and oh yes, one of the steepest drops of any coaster in the country.

A lovely 112 degree drop was once the steepest in the world and your stomach certainly agrees with that as you fly down.

You speed up the lift hill in seconds and instantly you’re straight into the drop and descending down the labyrinth of twists, turns and rolls.

I have to be honest I think Mumbo Jumbo was my favourite coaster at the park. Whilst Kumali has that scare-factor element nailed down it’s rather run of the mill after the first drop.

Mumbo Jumbo has you twisting like a pretzel and enjoying every minute of it!

Velocity

Velocity Ride Flamingo Land 2019 Review

One of the most unusual ride trains I have ever experienced. You hop onto a bike, lean forward, a harness holds your back down as you’re bent over the bike holding onto the handles and away you go.

This Vekoma motorbike launch coaster sends you foward at just under 60mph in 2.8 seconds.

You’re open to the elements with no choice but to hold onto the handles infront of you. It’s certainly a unique experience and is well worth a go for the harness system alone!

Hero

HERO ride Flamingo Land 2019 Review

This flying coaster from Zamperla is a questionable one indeed. You climb into a cage without a harness! Hold onto two metal bars and perform rolls, twists and turns!

Whilst I’m sure this passes heath and safety tests every season it doesn’t feel safe and that even feeling like you’re not safe is enough to justify not liking a particular coaster.

Whilst I didn’t mind the experience I didn’t want to risk recording footage on my head mount as your hands are outside the cage so i’d be unable to adjust my head mount if it slipped.

Lost River Ride

Lost River Ride Flamingo Land 2019 Review

A near 10 minute journey on the Lost River Ride takes you through some of the zoo enclosures.

We spotted some lions, zebras and giraffes on our journey. We then ascending a lift hill and plummeting down a waterfall slide. Certainly not as drenched as we were at Oakwood Theme Park the other week thou however.

Whilst the journey is a relaxing one I did feel as thou it dragged on a bit as there was nothing to see.

This was purely because many of the animals were seeking shelter out of the sun. If they were all out and in full view this ride would have be the perfect way to tour some of the parks attractions.

Our Day at Flamingo Land Overall

Thanks for checking out my Flamingo Land 2019 review. I throughly enjoyed this park.

Certainly in my top 5 parks in the country. With the addition of the new ride coming next year this park could very well make my top 3!
