The Star Wars universe is full of wonderful locations, ideal for a whole range of leisurely pursuits. How about a game of Star Wars Poker?
The Forest of Endor would satisfy any ramblers who wanted to get lost in the lush, green scenery. Extreme sports fans would doubtless relish a visit to Hoth for some skiing.
Some Star Wars characters like to relax with a game of Dejarik, which an article by Star Wars Fandom explains is also called holochess.
The table on board the Millennium Falcon looks perfect for a game of poker and is one of four locations we’ve picked as being perfect for a sneaky hand of Texas Hold’em.
Millennium Falcon
Let the Wookie win; that was the advice when players wanted to take on Chewbacca at holochess.
It’s certainly sound advice. But a game of poker would be perfect sat around the table onboard the fastest ship in the galaxy. Whilst Han Solo tried to impress the ladies with talk of doing the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs, Chewbacca could be cleaning up around the table.
With Han is the only character seemingly able to understand Wookie, they’d have a great advantage in any game too.
Mos Eisley Cantina
The obvious location for a game of poker in the Star Wars universe would be the Mos Eisley Cantina. Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes, the band from the bar, have just had a new B-side released according to The OCR which would make a perfect accompaniment.
You’d have to watch out for Ben Kenobi though. Flanked by heavies like Luke and Han, he could employ a Jedi mind trick and a collection of unconnected cards would soon be a full house or a flush.
He’d be gone with his winnings before you knew what had happened.
The Khetanna
A Looper article explains how Jabba the Hut is one of the most powerful gangsters in the Star Wars galaxy, so his private ship seems like a great place for a game of poker.
Jabba wouldn’t make a good loser, and he would have to get Leia to hold his cards otherwise the game might become a little difficult.
Without the use of hands, it’s unlikely Jabba played much poker, but that wouldn’t be a problem. Even Jabba can learn how to play. PartyPoker has its own card school where beginners can learn the rules of Texas Hold’em and other popular games. Just don’t tell Jabba he needs to learn from the start! The mere mention that he is a beginner may end up with you being set upon by his minions and tortured for long periods.
Cloud City
For the perfect high-stakes game, it would make sense to go to the one location that already sounds like a casino; Cloud City.
Lando might have double-crossed Han when he paid him a visit in Empire Strikes Back, but without the pressure of Darth Vadar hiding behind the scenes, his home looks perfect for the high-rollers of the universe to unwind and win a small fortune.
Just keep your eyes on your droids whilst you’re there.
