Naomie Harris and Tyrese Gibson Star in Black and Blue REVIEW

Black and Blue Movie DVD Packshot

Naomie Harris and Tyrese Gibson star in Black and Blue Available on Digital Download on February 17 and on DVD on March 2.This fast-paced action thriller is directed by The Intruder director Deon Taylor and you can watch the trailer below.

Rookie cop (Harris) inadvertently captures the murder of a young drug dealer on her body cam. After realizing that the murder was committed by corrupt cops she goes on the run.

Here she teams up with the one person from her community who is willing to help her (Gibson).  Being hunted she tries to escape the criminals out for revenge and the police who are desperate to destroy the incriminating footage.

We all know that Naomie Harris has insane range within her acting roles. The trailer above just goes to show that! But It would be nice to see Tyrese Gibson step out from his action typecast. It would be great to see him push himself within a role. This role feels like it is all a bit too run of the mill for him.

I’ll be sure to check this one out come February. The trailer brought some nice action shots and I like the moral dilemma that Naomie’s character finds herself in. It’s almost like The Purge but she’s the single target ready to be eliminated before the footage she has captured is uploaded incriminating those involved.

Black and Blue Review by Nick Clement

I’m always down for a solid cop movie, and Black and Blue is a solid cop movie. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, and the third act gets a little too busy for its own good, but overall it’s a confidently directed piece by Deon Taylor, with a terrific star turn from Naomie Harris as a cop who ends up witnessing the murder of a criminal informant by a group of corrupt officers, who then try to kill her on top of it.

She survives their attack and her body-camera has caught the entire incident, which then sends her on a frantic race against time to find one person who will believe her, as the conspirators have framed her for their transgressions.

Screaming-mad and always ferocious Frank Grillo pops as the chief baddie, but it’s Harris’ show all the way, and while Peter A.

Dowling’s propulsive script might’ve benefited from another final-act tweak, the scenario is packed with incident, and there’s a couple of nifty action set-pieces.

Available on Blu/DVD and via various streaming providers, including Starz HD.

Summary

A solid cop movie that whilst staying true to the run of the mill buddy cop format does manage to keep you engaged from start to finish.

It’s the Naomie Harris show and we just sit back and watch the fireworks!
