Recreating breathtaking speeds, lap after lap on the big screen is no easy task.
Ford V Ferrari delivers some of the most realistic racing scenes ever seen on screen.
Every scene had to perfectly recreate the feeling of 1960’s race car driving at its finest.
Stunt co-ordinator Robert Nagle discusses some of the more complex scenes in the movie.
Ford V Ferrari Stunt Co-Ordinator Discusses Difficult Scenes
Vintage race cars, high-speed racing and iconic moments aplenty. Just how on earth was that Le Mans race recreated when the track doesn’t even exist anymore?!
Nagle told Cinemablend:
The Le Mans sequence was very difficult. We had four or five locations to stitch together because obviously the Le Mans track today doesn’t represent what it was in 1966.
So we had several locations in Georgia to replicate different pieces of Le Mans that were signature corners, signature pieces that [sic] race fans would know. Dunlop Bridge, the Tertre Rouge, the Esses, all of that and the Mulsanne Straight.
That information above is a testament to how meticulously the track was created. Literally stitching various tracks together with editing finesse.
If that wasn’t bad enough the fact they had to film over a 24 hour period must have been even more grueling!
Ford V Ferrari Stunt Co-Ordinator Nagle went on to say:
And then to figure out and organize the sequence of cars as we cut from one to the other, over a 24 hour period, while it’s raining, not raining, day, night, and it all has to stitch together seamlessly, so you’re not seeing cars just suddenly jump around that weren’t there. That took a tremendous amount of planning.
The above just gives me a headache reading it let alone planning it and shooting it. Stitched locations, continuity, various weather conditions.
How on earth has this film not won more awards already?!
To match the genius of how it was shot we had powerhouse performances across the board to match the race intensity.
No detail is left unturned and it’s an immersive experience, unlike anything we’ve seen behind a car wheel.
