I’m back again with another Disney+ feature as Back to the Movies brings you its Elephant Disney Plus Review

Disney’s brand new Disneynature documentary Elephant tells the story of elephants making their way from the Okavango Delta to the Zambezi River and back again.
This never-ending quest of an elephant as they go in search of food and water is intriguing. The herd battle the dangers of predators and risk dying of starvation as they go in search of survival.
The documentary is voiced by Meghan Markle. I know right? I rolled my eyes too.
I’m not her biggest fan, not by a long shot. But taking away my preconceived notions of her she made the voiceover bubbly and fun.
Elephant isn’t your generic nature documentary told in a monotonous voiceover it had some vibrance to it as Meghan injected some lighthearted character into these wonderful creatures.
It takes some getting used to as nature documentaries as usually narrated in a certain way but this Disney spin made things a little more fun and engaging.

The cinematography in this documentary is mouth-watering. An incredible range of pans, shots, time-lapses, and close-ups bring you straight into the desert. I forgot about my surroundings and was fully immersed in the beautiful desert landscape. Watching these majestic creatures in their natural habitat was a joy.
Elephant takes your usual nature documentary and injects a personality as Meghan names each elephant in the herd so we can relate to them more.
We have Jomo, the youngest elephant in the herd, son of Shani who is second in command. Her sister Gaia is the matriarch and the documentary explores how Shani would take over should anything happen to Gaia.
When certain thoughts and actions are described you do question if that’s what they’re actually thinking but no one can know for sure. It’s the joy of the narration that speculates and weaves the story we’re being told.
One section discusses how Jomo doesn’t quite fully understand that he’s an elephant yet as he’s too busy interacting with other creatures. It’s playful and fun but he could be thinking of a number of things. We’re just led to believe one way of thinking as we’re being narrated as such.
Overall

Navigating alligator filled waters and being stalked by lions at dusk this documentary has it all.
The only downside for elephants for me would be the choice of the narrator and that’s only because of the circumstances that led her to get this job at Disney.
Prince Harry literally begging the chief of Disney to get her a job now that they’ve quit the Royal Family.
When speaking of the Matriarch in Elephants and how she’s a ‘force to be reckoned with’ she’s certainly transcending an opinion that reaches far beyond our innocent elephant friend here.
Looking past the voice that narrates this wonderful show and it’s just that, a wonderful show. Engaging, gripping, joyous and playful Elephants is well worth a watch.
