What if Superman was evil? This question seems to be answered in Brightburn directed by David Yarovesky and produced by James Gunn.
The story of Brightburn revolves around Tori (Elizabeth Banks) and Kyle (David Denman) who have been trying to conceive. One night they discover a newborn in the middle of the woods in the wreckage of a crashed spaceship. They see this baby as a miracle and adopt him but once Brandon turns 12 all hell seems to break loose. Puberty hits with devastating consequences as Brandon discovers he has supernatural powers and is born from a dark evil.

Brightburn is your run of the mill horror with a superhero twist. Jackson A. Dunn (Brandon) certainly carries this film single handedly. He’s got the creepy look nailed down to a tee and everyone else is a spectator in this mass destruction that occurs. Brandon seems just an ordinary (if albeit strange) kid on the outside but wind him up and you’ll see what he’s capable of.

No one is safe from Brandon’s wrath and it’s cool to see this evil superhero take form before us. The death sequences in Brightburn are very gruesome including a jaw-dropping car crash sequence that is sure to make you feel a little squeamish. There’s no remorse, there’s no justification, there’s no bargaining or soppy dialogue for change. Brandon is just evil and I fucking love it!

The ending leaves everything wide open for expansion and I was quite surprised by how much I enjoyed it!
Summary
Certainly not an original concept but I did rather enjoy this creepy and gory R-Rated twist on our run of the mill superhero flicks
