In a world where fairy tale monsters and humans are forced to co-exist is the realm where Abnormal Attraction takes place.

The story focuses around an AA group (Abnormal Attraction) where a group of humans admit to having unhealthy attractions to their fairy tale counterparts. What follows is a wacky series of events where we focus on each group members experiences and the wackiness that follows.

With a star studded line-up this twisted Beauty and the Beast style story is quite a difficult one to review. We have a hell of a lot going on within the story but rather than being convoluted we have genuine depth and clarity within the storytelling that really pays attention to individual backstories and current predicaments.
The script is out of this world bonkers but it has heart and passion and you can see the love that the writers have poured into each and every single crazy little page. This adult fairy tale weaves a humorous and albeit crazy sequence of events that had me chuckling along until the final credits roll.

Fuzz on the Lens Production have created something truly unique with Abnormal Attraction. The film in a nutshell is just ‘batshit crazy’. The whole world around us is painted so seriously for this to all come crashing down when an Abominable Snowman kidnaps a poor guy or when a cute girl starts crushing over a Leprechaun in a supermarket.
I can’t even imagine what it would be like to watch this movie under the influence of a certain legalised substance in some states over in the good ol USA. The whole film is a trip and I still can’t quite wrap my head around how well it works.

If you want to see the bad ass Tyler Mane (Michael Myers in Rob Zombie’s Halloween) show his softer side or Jason Levy portraying a character that gives me heavy Freakshow vibes from Harold and Kumar then you can’t go wrong with Abnormal Attraction. The film title perfectly voices my feelings about this movie, it feels almost strange to be enjoying it yet it’s drawing me in closer to it’s wide open yeti arms and embracing me like a long lost son.

Abnormal Attraction is a fairytale story for the adult generation but it does have its flaws. It can be quite slow paced at times and some of the jokes and events may be a little too far out even for me but as a whole it’s plain good fun. It’s as endearing as it is insane and it’s packed full of famous famous and little easter eggs for you to spot throughout.

Unique with a creative flair Abnormal Attraction paints a picture of modern times in an alternate universe. If people and fairy tale creatures can get past their differences and live in harmony then why can’t people get on with other people in the same way. It’s quite a look at today’s modern society and how we function within it and whilst we may meet a few goblins, gremlins, one eyed tree huggers and yeti’s along the way, we learn to live with them and put aside our differences for the greater good.

It really seems as though everyone on set is having a great time and recreating some sort of twisted childhood dream!

Summary
Slow in places and maybe over the top for some, Abnormal Attraction is incredibly well shot for an indie film and it takes some of our favourite fairy tales and weaves them into a world as crazy as it is endearing. A strange film to witness but I’m ever so glad I did.
