Are Movie Trends Stagnating? A Movie Goers Thoughts

Captain America Endgame

Statistics have shown that the gaming industry has gained a larger audience than that of the movie and music industry combined. Nobody could have ever predicted that video games would be as popular as they are today and not many people are aware of this.

The movie industry still remains one of the top forms of entertainment in the world and they still bring a lot to the table in terms of tech innovations when it comes to special effects, as well as complex and mind-boggling storylines. Lately, however, movie trends seem to have stagnated and there are many genres that have remained unchanged and quite repetitive.

Movie Trends

100 Horror Movies You Need To See In Your Lifetime

Horror movies may be the genre that is in dire need of a fresh approach and there have been a few movies this generation which don’t follow the usual trends like jump scares or regular slashers.

An example of one underrated horror movie would be The Babadook, which may seem as some sort of monster movie, but it’s actually a psychological horror. The movie has been well received by critics, however the audience reaction has been rather mixed.

Another trend that doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon are superhero movies. In the past, these movies were scattered and few with no real identity of their own. While there were some good superhero movies, like Tim Burton’s Batman and Richard Donner’s Superman, other movies released during that time have not been received very well.

It was during the early 2000 that the superhero genre was starting to garner attention again with the release of Spiderman in 2001 and Spiderman 2 in 2004. Many thought that superhero movies were not that great but Spiderman showed that a good superhero movie can be done with the right direction.

What followed was an avalanche of superhero movies, among them the superhero/drama The Dark Knight, one of the biggest hits in the 2000’s. Christopher Nolan was the one who started the trend of a more serious side to the superhero genre and this trend has been adapted by many movie directors since.

Over the next few years, the movie industry was flooded with superhero movies, most notably, the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Sequels and Remakes

When it comes to video games, they seem to be growing steadily each year with many innovations and new gameplay features. Some video games have a more engaging story because of their interactivity and it can be experienced at the players’ own pace.

With movies, especially in Hollywood, there is an abundance of remakes and sequels and it’s a trend that doesn’t seem to stop. While there are some that are good or even better than the original, most of them not so much.

An example would be From Dusk Till Dawn. The movie has received 2 sequels and a tv show since it was released. A video game was also developed and a casino game as well. The original movie, as well as the tv series had mostly positive reviews, while the two sequels have not been received as well.

The casino game From Dusk Till Dawn has been very well received by the public and is among the most popular slot games out there. The slot game features the same plot and setting from the original movie and instead of traditional fruit symbols used on regular slots, the reels contain elements from the movie itself, such the actors.

War For The Planet Of The Apes

Movie themed slot games have been adopted by many online casinos, especially the most well known ones such as Rise of the Planet of the Apes, as well as an Alien themed slot game. Casino adaptation of superhero movies have also been made. Examples include The Dark Knight, Man of Steel as well as the movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Final Thoughts

While most of the remakes and sequels are not as good as the original, adaptations in other forms of entertainment such a gaming have proven that it could work very well, if done right. The movie industry is still going strong and among the remakes and sequels, there are some original ideas with an artistic vision. One just needs to filter a bit through them in order to find them.
