Bubba Gump Shrimp Review: Seafood Heaven in Leicester Square

Bubba Gump Shrimp London Leicester Square

UPDATE – This attraction has now closed but we’ll keep the article up to give you an idea of what was once inside. It will be missed!

In the heart of Leicester Square in London, you’ll find Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. restaurant. A few minutes walk from some of the most famous theatres, cinemas, and even Chinatown.

This tribute to the movie ‘Forrest Gump’ is quite a unique experience. Food from the American South where there’s a whole load of shrimp on the menu. Take a look at my thoughts on Bubba Gump Shrimp in this review below!

Bubba Gump Shrimp Restuarant

Upon entering the Bubba Gump building we’re straight into a gift shop. From the famous Bubba Gump Shrimp hats donned by Tom Hanks in the movie to T-shirts, Mugs and more.

As you go upstairs the fun begins as you’re in a world of all things Forrest Gump. With winks and nods to the movie throughout in addition to Forrest Gump playing on repeat in the restaurant, there really is a southern sea-catching vibe to the place.

We came on a quiet day and this place really is quite large in scale. It was nice to relax in this fun and quirky setting and the staff were rather friendly which added to the overall atmosphere. With eyes bigger than my belly I had a Shrimpers Heaven meal. 4 different kinds of shrimp in cones of chips with various sauces.

My friend, however, isn’t a huge shrimp fan but does love a good steak so he ordered one of those. It’s nice that they offered a little variety within the menu including burgers, ribs and of course, the steak just mentioned.

Bubba Gump Shrimp Food

Bubba Gump Shrimp certainly don’t cut down on portion size. My Shrimper’s Heaven was as big as it was pricey (£24.50). Quite an expensive price tag but it’s central London after all. Even the Weatherspoons are more expensive here in London! Whilst I was bursting out what could only be classed as food orgasm noises my friend wasn’t best pleased with his steak. It looked like a lump of fat with next to zero meat, grey mashed potatoes and all slopped onto this tiny skillet plate. It looked horrific.

It’s safe to say whilst Bubba Gump Shrimp have their seafood dishes down to a tee, they can’t cook a steak to save their lives. Not only was it badly cooked but the cut of the steak was about as cheap as you could get.

Considering he was charged £23.95 for this sloppy luxury, it’s safe to say he was ripped off. Stick to shrimp and you won’t go wrong!

Whilst I rather enjoyed my dish. Sadly my friend hardly touched his plate. I wouldn’t have eaten it myself it looked awful. Not many people would go to Bubba Gump Shrimp and order steak but even so, you’d expect it to be a half-decent meal nonetheless.

Pricey yet tasty, Bubba Gump Shrimp hits a home run in the seafood department, hospitality department and overall southern feel. Just don’t order the steak!

As soon as we had our meal and drank every drop of alcohol left in London it was time to see Child’s Play!
