The Candyman remake is coming, and coming soon!

From director Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld’s Monkeyfield Productions.

Candyman Remake

At this moment in time not much has been released for the movie just yet. We’re slowly being spoon-fed information little by little.

I’m looking forward to it but also I’m a little skeptical.

Jordan Peele just can’t help making political and social commentary movies.

For me, any film that’s prioritizing agendas over script and quality instantly loses my attention.

I hope the storyline of the movie becomes the main focus here as it would be a shame to lose such an iconic character to agenda-driven narratives.

Candyman Remake Cast

Candyman Remake Cast

This upcoming movie is set to star Yahya Abdul-Mateen, Teyonah Parris, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett and Colman Domingo.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen is recognized from Aquaman and Jordan’s previous movie US which I wasn’t a huge fan of personally.

Teyonah Parris is most recognized from her role in If Beale Street Could Talk.

Nathan Stewart-Jarrett is known from the TV show Misfits.

Last but not least Colan Domino is best known for his role in HBO’s Euphoria.

Film Synopsis

A hook-handed boogeyman spits out swarms of bees and haunts a housing project in Chicago.

After asking their followers to retweet the Candyman post on Twitter 5 times (I see what you did there) a little 9-second teaser was revealed.

Candyman 2020 Trailer

The trailer gives us a brief glimpse of how Candyman is summoned and it looks to be something that goes viral as absolutely everyone is trying it.

These girls are in a college bathroom all trying to summon Candyman at once.

Not a clever idea girls

There’s also winks and nods at a possession taking place as Candyman looks to be trying to inhabit the earth once again.

All we know is that every single shot of the trailer was superbly done. It has a wonderful artistic flair to it whilst also having a retro feel.

Very classy indeed!

What We Know

Not a great deal of information has been revealed for the remake of Candyman movie. Everything is being kept very tight-lipped.

We do know that in the sequel baby Anthony McCoy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen) is all grown up and living in Cabrini-Green. Nothing has been released in regards to how Candyman is summoned but he’s back and on the prowl once again.

Tony Todd (the original Candyman) will be returning to reprise his role.

All we know from the original movie is that the film is based on Clive Barket’s short story The Forbidden.

We’re not sure how this new film will tie in with the original 1992 Candyman movie.

The original film revolved around a graduate student who after researching urban legends put her on the radar of The Candyman. Candyman is said to appear when you look into a mirror and say his name five times.

Candyman is the ghost of a black artist who fell in love with a white woman in the late 1800s and was brutally murdered by a lynch mob.
