In a world where sequels and remakes are being churned out at an exponential rate, there is certainly fatigue that comes from the constantly unimaginative cash-ins on popular franchises. what do we need? How about cinematic crossovers?

Before we get Mission Impossible 8, Fast and Furious 13 and Frozen 4 and 5 I think audiences would much rather see crossovers to spice things up from the copy-and-paste norm.
There’s a particular joy when two beloved worlds collide and seeing your favourite characters from two separate franchises on screen is certainly an intriguing sight.
Think Freddy Vs Jason and Godzilla Vs Kong for example, the draw is in the appeal of each character and then throwing them together, especially in a head-to-head is always going to draw people in.

Freddy Vs Jason wasn’t the best movie, and neither was Godzilla Vs Kong but both films did very well at the box office (Freddy Vs Jason made more money than either individual franchise film ever did!) so if the idea is to make money why not step away from sequels and remakes and step into a cinematic crossover universe?
As fans eagerly await new experiences and narratives we dive into some cinematic crossovers that we’d love to see in the future.
Marvel vs. DC

Iron Man Vs Superman, Thor Vs Batman, and Black Widow Vs Catwoman are always debates on the lips of superhero fans when it comes down to the Who Would Win in a Fight? question.
It would certainly be a way to cure superhero fatigue, the genre has long needed a good kick up the backside to make it relevant and fresh and an epic battle between the Justice League and The Avengers would wake up the most tired and fed-up superhero fan out there.
Perfectly timed to reawaken the genre this is a crossover that both companies desperately need (DC more than Marvel) as their ideas are running out and the copy-and-paste formats and performing worse and worse with every new release.
Star Wars Meets Star Trek

Help me, Captain Kirk, you’re my only hope!
Imagine if the two biggest space franchises collided and made one of the most iconic movies in cinematic sci-fi history.
Picture this, the USS Enterprise stumbles across a galaxy far far away and encounters the Jedi Order.
That thought alone I’m sure will be embraced by many and shunned by many as is the case with franchise favouritism, you will always have your favourites and the mere thought of working alongside your sworn enemy (as in, a franchise you don’t like as much) is enough to wind people up BUT, it would also attract bums on seats and that’s the main goal here.
Pixar Universe Avengers

Get me a Buzz Lightyear and Mr Incredible tag team movie any day of the week as a Pixar Universe Avengers-style film would be an absolute joy to watch!
Nemo has got lost again and Dory recruits the help of her Pixar friends to go on a mission like no other.
The plots just write themselves at this point and seeing all of those characters on screen together would be an absolute romp as personalities collide, comedy ensues and it’s just feature film animation gold waiting to be explored without milking individual franchises to death.
Ghostbusters Join the Men in Black

The good guys dress in… jumpsuits and proton packs apparently but we’d love to see the Ghostbusters and the Men in Black join forces to defeat otherworldly creatures.
Just imagine the production designers drooling over what pieces of technology they could equip both sides to defeat the aliens and then crossing the aliens over with the paranormal discoveries of the Ghostbusters, heck throw the Scooby Doo cast in there too for good measure and it would be one hell of a show!
Harry Potter in the Shire

Harry Potter and the One Ring combine forces in a magical fantasy crossover.
Gandalf and Dumbledore share stories, Harry’s courage and bravery going up against Gimli’s pride and Dobby back from the dead in a mighty twist as he explores the realms of Middle Earth where Voldermort is no match for the mighty Sauron.
Whilst this one is certainly the most questionable within this list I’d make it just to rid the taste of the Amazon Lord of the Rings series out of my mouth.
Wizards, elves, and hobbits uniting against a common enemy would be a spectacle to behold.
T-Rex Fights King Kong

Whilst King Kong has already had his little franchise crossover I’d still love to throw him in the fight against the mighty T-Rex just to see how that fight would go down.
Godzilla Vs T Rex Vs Kong felt like overkill so I’m sorry Godzilla you’ll have to sit this one out, you’re already doing mighty fine things with Minus One so stop being greedy!
Godzilla could face off against some Pacific Rim characters, that would be a hoot!
Giant monsters battling colossal robots – need I say more? Imagine Godzilla emerging from the depths of the ocean to face off against the Jaegers of Pacific Rim in an epic showdown that rocks the very foundations of the Earth. It’s a clash of titans on an unprecedented scale.
James Bond Meets Ethan Hunt

Now this would be a spy thriller for the ages as two of cinema’s most iconic spies join forces for a high-stakes mission sounds like a recipe for action-packed entertainment.
Imagine James Bond teaming up with Ethan Hunt to take down a global terrorist organization hell-bent on world domination. It’s a match made in espionage heaven.
Gadgets and gizmos galore and with the entourage that both Ethan and James have even the supporting cast would be stacked. It really would be something rather special.
Argylle and Kingsman

Already teased at the end of Argylle throwing this universe into the Kingsman universe makes perfect sense.
A few cast members have dual roles in each franchise but I’m sure a swift bit of scriptwriting would tidy up that oversight as two spy franchises combine with a classy and elegant British twist.
Whether it’s superheroes, wizards, or giant monsters, the prospect of seeing beloved characters from different worlds collide is a tantalizing prospect that keeps audiences eagerly anticipating the next big crossover event.
Until then, we’ll continue to dream and speculate about the cinematic crossovers that we’re dying to see but one thing is for sure, that Argylle and Kingsman crossover is only a matter of time, that’s a promise!
