Prince Akeem returns to America to search for his long-lost son.
Whilst Coming to America will always be solified in the comedy hall of fame we all gasped in part excitement part hesitation when Coming 2 America was announced.
Why mess with such a good thing, we collectively hoped that the second movie wouldn’t tarnish the original and as the credits rolled on Coming 2 America well, I was left a little confused by what I had seen as it’s certainly not a bad movie but it’s so out there, crazy and downright hilarious that whilst un-needed as a sequel it certainly lends a comedic flair to 2021 proceedings.
With Arsenio Hall as the loyal sidekick Semmi and James Earl Jones looking as though they haven’t aged a day it’s hard to believe it has been 33 years since the first movie.
I’d love to know what beauty secrets they’re gripping onto to keep them looking seamless over three decades later.

With barbershop scenes and Eddie Murphy on point bringing the laughs from start to finish it really is the comedy that we all deserve right now.
The comedy is certainly hit and miss at times but the film is never dull, the story takes centre stage and it keeps to the roots of the original.
With a star-studded line up and characters we’ve loved and adored for 33 years the sequel doesn’t feel out of place but at numerous times during its viewing it still doesn’t feel warranted.
It’s like that Uncle you’re not quite sure of turning up at a family get together.
It’s nice he’s there but life would be just as fine and dandy without them.

Coming 2 America feels as though at some point during a big production meeting there were many questions asked such as:
Shall we add some CGI?
Shall we do bigger without necessarily being better?
Shall we bring in as many cameos as we humanly can?
Along with many more questions that someone just nodded their head to and said yes to every, single, one.
Sit back, grab some popcorn and enjoy the madness and Eddie Murphy on fine comedic form in one of 2021’s unwanted but somewhat needed comedy flicks.

Summary
With stunning costumes and certainly laugh out loud moments when some of the jokes do hit Coming 2 America is certainly worth a watch, but maybe only the once.
