Dexter Season 9 Release Date Announced By Showtime

Dexter Returns

In news that has me like a kid on Christmas morning. We have a Dexter Season 9 release date. It’s officially happening!

Dexter Season 9 Release Date

Dexter is coming back to Showtime with Michael C. Hall reprising his role as Dexter Morgan.

After years of waiting and more waiting this shows revival looked to be a non-starter as fans were outraged after the Season 8 finale was arguably one of the worst TV series endings in history.

Dexter was created back in 2006 about a forensic technician with a secret.

When Dexter isn’t working within the police force solving crimes, he’s committing them.

A serial killer who only preys on the worst of the worst.

Like a modern day Batman with a bit more stabbing, gore and well.. okay… nothing like Batman!

I’m just so darn excited!

As the seasons passed the quality definitely dipped up and down somewhat and many diehard fans thought the series took a nosedive after season 4 when original show runner Clyde Phillips left the show.

News that will bring joy to the ears of many is that for Season 9, Clyde Phillips is back!

John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Bill Carraro and Scott Reynolds alongside Phillips and Hall himself will serve as executive products.

The official Dexter Twitter page confirmed the news just a few hours ago.

With Philips in the driving seat the wrongs of Season 8 can finally be put right.

Phillips has always been vocal about how he would have ended Dexter differently and maybe this time around he can give the character a much more fitting send off.

Showtime President Gary Levine had the following to say on the announcement:

Dexter is such a special series, both for its millions of fans and for Showtime, as this breakthrough show helped put our network on the map many years ago.

We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series.

Well, I am happy to report that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it, and we can’t wait to shoot it and show it to the world.

Plot details are currently unknown but with the finale leaving Dexter faking his own death to live a quiet life as a lumberjack the opportunities are wide open for the characters return.

It’s also thought that Jennifer Carpenter who played Dexter’s sister Debra throughout the series will be returning.

As we all know the fate of Debra wasn’t a nice one it seems as though she may return in the form of hallucinations or dreamscapes that Dexter has frequently with deceased loved ones / family members.

Dexter’s story could also now involve his son Harrison should the time frame be skipping ahead a few years until his baby boy is now old enough to inherit some of his father’s unusual extra curricular activities.

Dexter Season 9 release date has been scheduled for a fall 2021 release and will comprise of 10 episodes in total.

Roll on 2021!

Update – 30/04/2021

A brand new teaser trailer was released confirming the fall premiere date but here we see a familiar set-up in a new location as Dexter looks out of his arctic cabin and we see yet another potential victim struggling in the background.
