Escapism of the highest order is watching your favourite film or show on television and instantly putting yourself into the fictional realm of the world that the show or film scriptwriters have created.
From pages of a book to the silver screen, some worlds capture our imagination and in this article, we’ll discuss just a few fictional places that we’d love to visit.
Let’s dive into my top 5 fictional places that I’d love to visit and if you can think of any more then please do leave a comment below with your favourite fictional places you’d love to visit!
Rivendell (Middle-earth)
Take a trip amongst the misty mountains and into the heart of Rivendell the elven home of tranquility and relaxation.
Beautiful surroundings, cascading waterfalls and stress-relieving gardens make Rivendell the ultimate spa-break retreat.
Walking through here would be a living dream from start to finish, speaking with elves, hanging out with Elrond and embracing a much more laid-back approach to life.
A dream come true.
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
I think this one would make the majority of lists as a trip to Hogwarts has been a dream of mine since I was a child.
Whilst visiting the Warner Bros Studio Tour in London certainly gives you a taster of what it was like, it’s just not the same is it?
Hop on board the Hogwarts Express before arriving at the castle of moving staircases, enchanted portraits and endless corridors and rooms to explore.
Take a potions class with Professor Snape or sneak off into the Forbidden Forest to explore all the dark and mysterious wonders that lie amongst the trees.
Breakfast, dinner and tea in the Great Hall would be an absolute delight although I’d probably steer clear of playing Quidditch with my fear of heights!
Westeros (Game of Thrones)
A land of epic battles awaits the more adventurous of us all as dragons and more lie waiting amongst the kingdoms.
The vast landscape to explore, King’s Landing and a seat amongst the Iron Throne would certainly be an experience.
A place to visit when you’re feeling a little brave as you just never know when you’ll come under attack and you’ll be ready to fight for your kingdom.
Narnia (The Chronicles of Narnia)
Step inside the wardrobe and enter the realm of Narnia where chatting to a talking lion is the norm.
Meet mythical creatures along your journey and explore a magical land.
Whilst I’d probably steer clear of a battle against the White Witch a little sightseeing wouldn’t go amiss in this rather beautiful landscape plucked from C.S. Lewis’s beloved series.
Asgard (Marvel Universe)

Asgard would have you stepping into Norse mythology to explore as you deem fit but don’t bother trying to lift Thor’s hammer Mjolnir as you’ll be there until Christmas.
Meet mighty warriors, observe Loki’s trickery and indulge in Odin’s wisdom over a nice drink in a kingdom fit for royalty.
I’d probably jump ship the second Thanos arrived and let the pros deal with him but I’d love nothing more than a quick sightseeing tour beforehand.
The halls of Valhalla would be a wonderful landscape to explore and whilst these destinations only exist in imagination they’d certainly be of interest to any adventure seeker.
There’s a magic about all of these fictional places in this post that inspires me to explore, discover and embark on more journeys in the real world and with some of the locations in this article you can visit the sets in real life!
Simply take a trip to Alnwick Castle which was used as the setting for Hogwarts in the first movie or take a trip to New Zealand and explore Hobbiton which has numerous film sets and locations that still stand today.
