First Bite Short Film Review: A Snack That Leaves You Hungry for More

First Bite Short Film Review

Six minutes of metal, mayhem and a hunger that mere food just cannot satisfy, we review the First Bite short film.

First Bite Short Film

Alex is struggling in a venue bathroom as she finds herself ill at a metal concert.

Our very short, short takes place in the bathroom from start to finish as Alex is throwing up non-stop in the bathroom during a concert.

For such a short film a whole 30% of the film is Alex throwing up in a toilet which I certainly thought was a wasted opporunity.

There’s a limited time to build up a story here and with her constantly throwing up it would have made sense to shorten this and add more context to the story.

Alex has a bite on her arm and we’re assuming as the audience that she has been bitten by a zombie but some context to this moment would have been nice.

How was she bitten infront of thousands of rockers outside?

Did a band member bite her?

How long has it been since she was bitten?

First Bite Horror Short Film

These are questions that go unanswered but nevertheless the gory special effects on the bite are very convincing and we watch as Alex slowly start to crave more than food.

An insaitable hunger that can only be satified by human flesh.

Being stuck at a metal gig certainly leaves a variety of pick and mix options to choose from should she fancy opening the door and start snacking.

Whilst the short doesn’t have enough time to answer any questions that we may have it does absolutely fly by and seems like the perfect short to show before a film festival or a segway into other horror content.

I also think it could have been a golden opportunity to have the band in the background play ‘Down With the Sickness’ by Disturbed to only fuel the fact that Alex is unwell and turning into something ghoulish.

First Bite Movie Short Film Review

Vincenzo Nappi is a Canadian writer, editor, and director born in Montreal, Quebec and in six minutes has created a foundation of a story that I wish was explored more within the minutes it was allocated.

The First Bite short film has been an official selection at Fantasia International Film Festival, Horrible Imaginings Film Festival, Flamingo Film Festival, Mountain Tales Film Festival, Rock And Metal International Film Festival, Sin City Horror Fest, Picture Show Panic, Hellifax Horror Fest and Soho Horror Film Festival.

A short film that drags you in, takes a bite and then spits you out before you’ve had a chance to settle in.

A short film that merely provides an amuse bouche whilst you spend 6 minutes craving more to feed your own hunger and desire to dig deeper within the films foundations / story.
