HBO have dropped the first teaser trailer for the Harry Potter series and I’m torn between the child in me that grew up watching Harry Potter vs the adult who’s watching every frame of the teaser shaking my head.
Let’s discuss.
Regardless of my own torn opinion on this particular series, one thing is for sure, it’s going to do VERY well
The nostalgia of Harry Potter to this day is am ember that will continue to burn long after I leave this earth and the franchise shows no signs of slowing down or becoming irrelevant. You only have to head down to the Harry Potter Studios Tour any day of the year to see it absolutely overflowing with fans from all over the world and it shows no signs of stopping.
More Harry Potter attractions are popping up all over the world including a fully immersive theme park land (with roller coasters) coming to Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi in a few years.
This first trailer has dropped with all the winks and nods that oozes nostalgia of the Philosopher’s Stone.
Harry having a tough time at home, encounter Hagrid for the first time, catching the train to Hogwarts where he meets Hermione and Ron it’s all very endearing from a fan perspective as we all remember reading the book for the first time and then seeing it immortalised on screen in some of the most beautifully crafted movies we will ever see in our lifetime.

But this feels, different.
The casting of this movie seems so all over the place and it’s certainly going to take a lot of heavy investment from fans to realise these aren’t the characters we grew up with and they never will be.
But once again. Let me be very clear. The casting is horrendous and regardless of how incredible performances may or may not be within the film the magic already feels a little more dulled because of that very fact.
There are some very talented actors within the show and I’m sure they will deliver it’s just going to take some serious getting used to and I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that one.
The series will debut this Christmas so dropping a trailer this early is a nice treat to test the waters and see what the initial reaction is and in glimpses, especially with locations and the overall cinematic look of the teaser there’s certainly potential here.
Harry Potter for a new generation in series format is certainly what they’re going with and that’s fine but they have to deliver something very strong, I’m talking stronger than J.K’s online social media STRONG.
I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot more teasers in the months to come but at the moment I’m certainly on the fence and I’m pretty sure I will continue to be until Christmas 2026.
