Hasbro kindly sent us a Black Series Boba Fett helmet to review and i’m ever so glad they did!
A character that is solidified in Star Wars history.
A character that achieved icon status and was only in the movie for less than a few minutes with little to no dialogue.
But a character that has remained in the hearts of Star Wars fans for many, many years.
A character that litters comic-con halls across the world and with the recent release of Hasbro’s new 2020 Star Wars merchandise line-up you’ll see a familiar face indeed.
After years of waiting Hasbro has created a Black Series Boba Fett helmet. A 1:1 scale helmet to join The Empire Strikes Back 40th Anniversary collection.
Two helmets have in fact been released including the original Boba Fett helmet you’ll be seeing today along with a Prototype version.
The prototype version is simply a white mask as originally Boba Fett’s character was written as a Super Stormtrooper.
This homage to the original concept is a nice touch indeed.
Black Series Boba Fett Helmet
Using a laser scan (not a casting) of the original Boba Fett helmet, Hasbro has got every dent, nook, and cranny catered for within this affordable scale replica.
There are many Boba helmets out there and whilst not as detailed as a helmet casting this Boba helmet is easily the best commercially produced replica on the market.
For a cast helmet or similar, I’ve seen prices soar to £300-400! This Hasbro Black Series helmet costs under £150.
The differences between this and an EFX helmet, for example, are very minimal indeed.
Compared to the EFX helmet costing 3-4 times as much the only differences are that the range finder rod is made from metal. Including the side panels.
The visor on the EFX helmet is also more to scale with the original helmet.
That’s it. Those are the only two major differences!
I imagine the Hasbro visor had to be bigger so that people could actually see out of the helmet better for health and safety reasons.
Out of the two I know which one I’d go for.
Detail
The olive green and brown contrast of colors mixed with the metallic chips and dents are a wonderful touch.
Naturally, these are decals added for the most part onto the helmet and only up close can you really tell that.
From a distance or just from a passing by glance, you wouldn’t really be able to notice.
The infamous dent on the helmet actually burrows into the interior of the helmet itself and the rangefinder is well designed if albeit a prop and not an addition to the costume.
Once you place the helmet onto your head the viewfinder disappears from view! Certainly an accessory rather than a feature.
With the helmet taking x1 AAA battery the viewfinder lights up with a white glow and two LEDs provide the ‘tracking’ effect.
Simply press a button on the side of the helmet and the range finder flips down.
With the range finder being held on a plastic rod thou however, I imagine over time that the plastic could weaken.
It’s not a thick plastic and the velocity in which the range finder falls into place could easily cause the rod to snap.
It would have been nice to have a counterbalance or a slower delivery of the range finder that could be manually flipped down, or even just a more reinforced material for the rod.
It’s certainly an area of the mask vulnerable to breakages.
From the smallest details like paint chips, nuts, and bolts the helmet have a great deal of character.
Just displaying this on a shelf, it looks the business. It really does.
A perfect display item.
Comfort
With an adjustable head strap inside you can easily fix to adjust to the width of your head. You can also adjust the height in which your head rests in the mask.
I have a big head but I certainly know many folks who will struggle to get into this mask properly. I had maxed out the width adjuster within the helmet and was only just able to get my head inside comfortably.
Anyone with a bigger head will sadly struggle.
This mask was made for one actor and one actor only. If it doesn’t fit, I’m afraid you don’t make the cut as a Bounty Hunter.
This is the way.
When I first saw the inside of the mask I had chills.
There was something about the detail inside the mask that instantly gave me memories of watching The Imagineering Story on Disney+.
There was an essence or a kind of magic to how it’s designed inside. It really looks the part. It’s hard to put into words exactly how I felt at that moment but it just looked right.
The interior is kitted with various details and little cushion pads for your neck. These pads are just for show thou however as once the helmet is placed on your head your neck doesn’t touch the sides.
I imagine the pads are for walking or even running so your neck isn’t beaten senseless.
The level of detail on the inside of the helmet is impressive indeed. The mask is comfortable to wear for long periods of time and your vision isn’t compromised when wearing.
It’s completely translucent on the interior of the mask but to outsiders, they cannot see your face at all.
A mistake that many Boba Fett helmets have made in the past.
This tinted window effect really makes you look the part and keeps your identity a secret like a true Mandalorian.
Overall
I want to thank Hasbro for sending me this mask to review.
I was expecting action figures or a small model or similar but nothing on this scale so thank you.
The Black Series Boba Fett helmet is the most impressive commercial mask I’ve seen.
It’s comfy to wear, it looks incredible and the price point is an absolute steal compared to its competitors.
Whilst it’s a shame that the range finder wasn’t more practical there’s nothing else I can think of that spoils this mask.
An iconic mask and Hasbro have done a wonderful job in creating this truly iconic helmet.

Our Rating
Summary
If this helmet had been a more expensive helmet I’d have awarded it a respectable 4 stars.
The fact that this helmet is under £150 and is a commercially available mass produced helmet is impressive indeed.
With a premium level of quality from the feel of the helmet to its almost luxury and comfortable interior this is certainly a helmet that wouldn’t look out of place alongside its expensive counterparts.
