Hell Fest Review: Cult Classic Status Achieved

Hell Fest is a theme park slasher that oozes 80’s classic vibes and delivers in most areas for quite a unique and entertaining picture.

Focusing on people’s fascinations with haunted attractions Hell Fest is a horror theme park packed full of mazes and scares.

But a killer is on the loose disguised as a scare actor. Our group soon finds themselves at the mercy of this unforgiving man who wreaks havoc on the local attraction.

This movie surprised me. The attention to detail of the large scale horror attraction is admirable.

With superb set and prop design in addition to various scare mazes that look the part.

I almost wish this was a real-life yearly attraction, the scale is impressive indeed!

The camera work, the glorious Tony Todd cameo and it perfectly fit the wink and nod vibe to classic horror.

horror still

Whilst I can’t say too many bad things about this movie I will first and foremost pick out the only thing that bugged me.

The annoying cast.

There’s no depth of character, no sort of bond or relation formed between the audience and the group on screen.

You’re once again rooting for the killer and it’s sad that character development was so under par in this above-average slasher.

Hell Fest delivers in the violence department with gruesome and inventive kills and it’s fun to watch.

The films ending is certainly worth a revisit.

I instantly get Arthur Mitchell vibes from the TV series Dexter.

You’ll know exactly what I mean when you see it.

A person who wears a metaphorical mask to fool those closest around him.

Summary

Hell Fest could very well be a cult classic if you look past the run of the mill typecast group and clunky writing. It’s a glorious little indie slasher flick!
