Here’s The Absolute Best Movies To Watch When Sick

Ah, the good old sick day, of which I now have many as a recent victim of the dreaded ‘vid’. But fear not, any sick day/s is an excuse to binge-watch some films and here are a collection of the best movies to watch when sick.

For me when it comes to sick day movies it has to be a film that ignites a certain feeling within me.

A feeling of happiness, a feeling of nostalgia, a moment in time where I was watching a film and you could truly understand the mythical ‘movie magic’ that certain features possess.

Now whilst not all of the titles in my personal list will be to everyone’s taste they certainly ignite that happiness and nostalgia within me no matter how sick I may be.

So if you can find those films from your past (or present) that have really stirred something within you over the years, then add them to your ‘sick day’ collection immediately!

Without further ado here we go, the best movies to watch when sick.

Space Jam

Space Jam

Ah, the good old days of going to your local video rental store and picking up a gem with your parents to watch that evening.

This movie changed my life, a film that I must have rented over and over so many times I could have probably bought ten copies myself.

Forget the horrendous remake which will not even be whispered in the same breath as this classic.

Michael Jordan at the top of his game and thrust into this Looney Tunes feature is the feel-good movie that wipes away any negativity I’m feeling when unwell.

American Pie

A stark contrast from the movie choice above but still a film that changed my life.

Growing up with older brothers this film sculpted the teenage years of Sean and not always with the best outcomes or consequences.

A film that puts a smile on my face no matter how many times I heard the jokes and Stifler was a character that has resonated with my rebellious youth for many, many years.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Ferris Bueller

The ultimate sick day movie.

Let’s hope you’re actually sick and not faking it like Ferris but if you watch this film when you’re genuinely ill you can almost live vicariously through Ferris as he skips school and goes on a madcap adventure with his friends.

An absolute classic!

The Upside (Or Anything with Kevin Hart in it)

The Upside

Kevin Hart could bring out the most boring TV show or movie in history and I’d still find a way to enjoy it immensely.

The Upside was a role that bought more a more serious tone to his usual typecast comedy sidekick roles and with Bryan Cranston alongside him this made for quite the spectacle.

Good fun, kind-hearted and a real wholesome movie to enjoy.

The Greatest Showman

the greatest showman review

Every musical that has ever existed in history I’ve shunned and stayed far away from until I saw The Greatest Showman.

From a beautiful variety of tracks that stick in your mind long after the credits roll to a star-studded cast and joyous spectacle if there’s one musical to lift your mood then it’s this one.

The Goonies

The Goonies

I would need to be hung, drawn and quartered if I left this little number off the list.

It’s an 80s gem and one that still stands the test of time even now.

This adventure flick takes you on a journey to discover One-Eyed Willy’s treasure and you’ll have a grin on your face from start to finish.

Follow the motto of the Goonies when they ‘never say die’ and battle through your illness with Sloth and the gang by your side.

Harry Potter

Harry Potter

It’s quite hard not to get swept up in the magic of Harry Potter no matter how old you are.

Simply press play and get swept away to Hogwarts with Harry and the gang.

If you’re unwell, I’d stick to the first few movies, it starts to go a bit dark and depressing the more the films go on so keep the innocence with the early movies and you’ll be just fine.

Back to the Future

I’m pretty sure any 80’s classic would make for a good sick day movie but Back to the Future has to be in this list without question.

From flying cars to time travel, 1955 antics and more this film is a Universal gem providing comedy and intrigue and that’s just part 1.

With two more movies to watch thereafter, you might just have to have a sick day marathon!

Home Alone

Not just a great Christmas movie but a wonderful film to watch when you’re sick.

Join Kevin McCallister as his family leave for a trip without him and he’s on a one-boy mission to save his home from burgers and to survive alone during Christmas vacation.

Bad Boys

bad boys 1995

Fuelling my inner testosterone is the Michael Bay classic Bad Boys.

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in their prime as buddy cops as they track down a cartel.

Guns, comedy, action from start to finish, nice cars, beautiful women. This film has it all!

The Lord of the Rings

I tend to find films that have a quest or a goal or magical journey to them are always the perfect ones to watch when you’re sick.

Lord of the Rings has to be very close to the mountain peak when it comes to films like that.

It’s escapism at its finest as your mind truly whisks itself away to Middle Earth and all the goings-on that surround it.

Avengers: Infinity War

infinity stones

I’ve always said that Marvel as a company should have just stopped making movies after Infinity War, they’re never going to get any better.

Just leave the franchise after the Thanos click and devote your time to cheaper spin-off Disney Plus series suffering from the aftermath of said click.

But no, the milking continued and it’s been a pretty poor display from them ever since.

In my eyes, no other film really existed after Infinity War and despite Endgame being a quality movie it completely un-did all of what made Infinity War great and that just cannot be forgiven.

Hitch

Hitch Will Smith

A rom-com classic guaranteed to put a smile on your face. No more needs to be said about this Will Smith classic.

Big Daddy

Big Daddy Best Movies To Watch When Sick

There is many an Adam Sandler film that could be added to this list of the best movies to watch when sick but I went with Big Daddy.

I find it equal parts hilarious and heartwarming and it has an absolutely stellar soundtrack.

One of Adam Sandler’s more serious (kinda) roles and certainly not one to be missed!

Love Actually

love actually keira knightly

I have a soft spot for this film, I think many Brits do, it’s whether or not most guys would like to admit it or not.

An absolutely star-studded cast deliver this multi-layered story of encounters, predicaments and love fuelled agendas.

A British classic and an absolutely swell movie to watch with a blanket and a nice spot of hot chocolate.

The Holiday

Speaking of movies to watch with a blanket and a hot chocolate then The Holiday is a must.

This is certainly a film to watch with a female significant other and pretend it was her choice to watch the film and not your own.

The same goes for.

Just Married

Just Married Best Movies To Watch When Sick

Ashton Kutcher and the late Brittany Murphy made an absolute gem with this one.

A rom-com about a recently married couple who rushed into getting hitched and off begins an absolutely disastrous honeymoon with hilarious consequences.

The Naked Gun

Naked Gun Best Movies To Watch When Sick

Just put Leslie Neilsen on the TV in any movie and I’ll be laughing and forgetting about my ailments in no time.

A classic comedy that didn’t care who it offended and whilst the ‘karens’ out there may have an issue with it today I’ll be the person playing it on repeat just to spite them.
