Taking a glorious film like Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix and turning its highly anticipated sequel into a musical (of sorts) was certainly one of the stranger choices we’ve seen in the DC Universe as of late.

The first Joker 2 musical trailer dropped today and I’m scratching my head as to how this film is going to work without being a distraction from the core story it’s trying to tell.
One visit to Arkham Asylum and the next they’re off singing show tunes is something I never thought I’d see from DC but with how unpredictable their slate is in terms of quality and performance nothing surprises me with them nowadays.
Whilst this particular avenue of filmmaking is a strange one indeed, it might just work.
No musical numbers are showcased in the new trailer but this falling-in-love story between Joker and Harley Quinn certainly has a twist or two under its sleeve.
Like if La La Land was thrown into Arkham, throw in a couple of fruit loop villains and we have a recipe for box office success out of sheer curiosity alone.
The film stars Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, with Joaquin Phoenix returning as Arthur Fleck (The Joker).
Other cast members include Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson, Zazie Beetz and Steve Coogan.
Todd Phillips returns to direct after the very successful original Joker movie.
No one asked for this sequel but now we’re all intrigued to watch it which is more than what can be said about any other DC film of note recently.
