Kevin Hart: Don’t F**k This Up Episode 2 Review
I remember a Conan interview a while back where Kevin mentioned that his dad would always say to him “Don’t be a bitch”. Funnily enough as this episode begins that very segment plays during the intro.
The opening segment of the film is Kevin and the ‘Road Warriors’ on a podcast on the Laugh Out Loud network talking about fathers. This segment is hilarious, you can feel the love between these guys and the banter is superb.
A great introduction of a lighthearted nature before Kevin dwells into the more serious discussion of his relationship with his father.

Kevin discusses his father’s use of drugs and how it affected him as a child. Most of Kevin’s standup shows topics (That I thought was embellished for comedic effect) are all true.
Every single event happened in real-life. From his dad throwing him into a pool when he couldn’t swim to being high for large portions of his childhood. His father’s anger issues and bravado had a real impact on Kevin’s upbringing.
Kevin’s inclusion of these real-life stories in his standup comes across as a coping mechanism.
The interview segments are much more open, honest and all cards are laid out on the table with no jokes told.
Kevin and Eniko

Eniko Hart, Kevin’s wife talks in detail about how they met for the first time in a club in DC. Kevin serenaded her and was goofing around and she fell in love with him there and then.

She says how she’s always attracted to people with a good sense of humour and Kevin delivered that and so much more.
It’s here where we get a look at some of their wedding footage. A beautiful, touching moment where each say their vows to one another and begin the rest of their lives together.
Overall

This episode has very unusual pacing. We bounce between negative and positive stories constantly throughout. There’s a very back and forth thing going on. Sometimes it becomes a little harder to connect with what we’re being told. But stand back and look at the bigger picture and the message is more clear.
Despite the ups and downs you are defined by the actions, choices and decisions we make.
These decisions make us the people we are today. No ones perfect, we all make mistakes it’s how we learn and grow from those mistakes that define us.
