Lilo and Stitch Disney Live-Action Movie In The Works For 2021 Release

lilo and stich disney live action remake

Roll the clocks back to 2018 and it was announced that Disney were working on a live-action remake of the 2002 animation Lilo & Stitch.

A report that came out this week from The DisInsider indicates that the movie is following in the footsteps of Lady and the Tramp and is aiming for a release on the Disney+ streaming service exclusively.

Lilo and Sitch Live Action

This live-action/CG hybrid is set to begin shooting in Hawaii this fall. Chris Sanders the original voice of Stitch is back on board to reprise his role as the loveable alien.

The story revolves around a genetically engineered alien created to cause destruction.

He befriends a young Hawaiian girl after escaping custody and landing on earth.

Currently the only news we have aside from that is that the script has been written by Mike Van Waes (The Crooked Man).

Dan Lin and Jonathan Elrich are producing.

There is currently no word on other cast members attached to the project nor is there any news on a director.

Future Live-Action Disney Movies to Look Forward to

We take a look at Disney’s upcoming slate of live-action adaptations for you to look forward to.

Mulan (March 27, 2020)

The tale of a Chinese woman who pretends she’s a man to fight in her father’s place during the way.

Mulan is heading to cinemas March 27, 2020 and its looking very impressive indeed. Check out the trailer HERE.

The one staggering difference between this live-action version and the original is the fact that this live-action version will NOT be a musical.

Cruella (101 Dalmatians) (December 23, 2020)

The Cruella de Vil origins story that I didn’t even know I wanted. Scheduled to drop two days before Christmas.

Emma Stone is set to play the role of the villain.

I, Tonya director Craig Gillespie is set to direct.

Peter Pan (TBD)

David Lowery is set to direct and co-write this Peter Pan live-action movie.

With many live action depictions over the years it begs the question as to why another one (insert DJ Khaled reference here) is going to be made.

Tink (TBD)

Reese Witherspoon is hot favourite to play Tinkerbell. We have the Peter Pan live-action and now a Tinkerbell spin-off.

Why not throw them into the same movie and market it as a duo?

The Little Mermaid (TBD)

Disney announced Halle Bailey would star as Ariel in its upcoming live-action version of The Little Mermaid.

No other information about the movie has currently been released.

The Sword in the Stone (TBD)

Game of Thrones writer / producer Brian Cogman is set to write The Sword in the Stone. A live-action tale about the story of King Arthur.

Rose Red (Snow White) (TBD)

Yes, we’re getting another Snow White movie. Haven’t we had enough?

This retelling will revolve around Rose Red who works with the dwarves to bring Snow White back to life after she eats the poison apple.

Pinocchio (TBD)

Pinocchio will become a real-boy in this Disney Live-Action movie.

Writer Peter Hedges is attached to the project. Paul King (Paddington) was announced as director.

Prince Charming (Cinderella) (TBD)

A live-action Prince Charming movie is still swirling around the rumour mill.

Who would play the handsome prince I wonder?

Overall

Disney Animation

With so, so many live-action movies in the pipeline. Saturation is an understatement.

But after the roaring success of The Lion King I expect many more of these to come!
