Usually when it comes to Jordan Peele movies and associations I quickly skirt over them (Sorry, I’m not a fan) but this press release definitely caught my attention as Jordan is teaming up with gaming guru Hideo Kojima to announce their OD game. Or is it a game?
At the game awards, Kojima Productions have announced the latest project from auteur game director Hideo Kojima OD, in collaboration with Academy Award winner Jordan Peele.
OD will provide a chilling dive into the depths of the human psyche and will push the boundaries of fear and player’s capacity for terror.
We’ve certainly seen all of this type of marketing before with Jordan’s projects and I’m yet to find a film that genuinely prioritises horror over social commentary, politics and all the other ‘woke’ tropes that plague a standard Peele production.
But I digress..
I’m sure this one will be fine.
The project is joined by Hunter Schaffer (Euphoria), Sophia Lillis (I Am Not Okay With This) and Udo Kier (Flesh for Frankenstein) who will play the lead roles in the upcoming game.
OD will be available exclusively on Xbox and the press release was worded as follows:
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS and XBOX GAME STUDIOS officially announced OD at The Game Awards. World-renowned game creator Hideo Kojima has partnered with Academy Award winning filmmaker Jordan Peele, the acclaimed film director of “Get Out,” “Us,” and “Nope,” who will be one of several talented storytellers involved in the project.
“We are working with Xbox Game Studios and their cloud gaming technology to take on the challenge of creating a very unique, immersive, and totally new style of game – or rather, a new form of media,” said Hideo Kojima, Game Creator and Founder of KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS.
A HIDEO KOJIMA GAME, OD explores the concept of testing your fear threshold, and what it means to OD on fear – while blurring the boundaries of gaming and film. The new teaser for OD also reveals Sophia Lillis (“Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves”), Hunter Schaffer (“Euphoria”) and Udo Kier (“Flesh for Frankenstein”), who will play the lead roles in the upcoming project.
Whilst the release has certainly piqued my interest I’m certainly taking Hideo’s insane skill and expertise here as my beacon of faith in this project and I hope that it delivers on what promises to be a very unique gaming experience indeed.
No more details have been revealed about the project but I’m sure we’ll find out more about OD in 2024.
