Palm Springs is a breath of fresh air due to fantastic performance from its two leads and an incredibly intriguing original story.
When Sarah (Cristin Milioti) meets Nyles (Andy Samberg) at a Palm Springs wedding, she unexpectedly joins him in a time loop that sees them reliving the same day repeatedly.
Milioti and Samberg deliver committed performances that elevate the material, roping in viewers with their humor, energy, and exceptional chemistry.
Palm Springs is an ultimately simple film with a simple plot, but it is so smartly executed. At its core, the film forces us to confront whether we have identified our purpose(s) and pushing ourselves to live life.
In a strange way, the film is very timely; we all have been stuck inside doing the same thing day in and day out.
Samberg is at the top of his game in Palm Springs, delivering laugh-out-loud lines that are matched by Milioti’s perfect returns.
J.K. Simmons is also part of the cast, taking a run at a comical character who is also experiences the Groundhog Day effect, using his time to torture Samberg’s Nyles.
It all comes together in a refreshingly unique story that takes a familiar idea and makes it its own.
Slower moments aside, Palm Springs is a blast. Don’t miss it on Hulu.
