We check out Pedro Pascal’s new movie Freaky Tales as the first trailer was released with a wonderfully charming 1990s vibe.
Set in 1987 Oakland, Freaky Tales is a multi-track mixtape of colorful characters — an NBA star, a corrupt cop, a female rap duo, teen punks, neo-Nazis, and a debt collector — on a collision course in a fever dream of showdowns and battles.
Packed full of edgy humour, gory kills and twists and turns this film certainly has a Pulp Fiction vibe to it with maybe a little hint (at least in structure) to Tales of the Crypt and I’m absolutely here for it.
With a whole cast of off-the-wall characters and even an appearance by Tom Hanks somewhere in this movie makes it look like Movie43 (but less rubbish) with a horror twist.
After seeing Pedro Pascal in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent his range is there for all to see as he can bounce between serious and comedic roles with ease, I can’t wait to see how he delivers this one.
I love a good mash-up movie and the trailer certainly leaves you wanting more which is rare in modern times as it usually spoils just about everything that you’re about to see in a film before you even see it.
Freaky Tales debuted at Sundance Film Festival back in 2024 and got some good reviews so let’s just wait and see if it lives up to the initial hype (69% positive reviews).
