There were a number of special guests in attendance to celebrate the occasion including Alan Carr, Henry Golding, Kimberley Walsh, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Mabel, Maisie Peters, Munroe Bergdorf, Olly Alexander, and previous ‘Wicked’ cast from the West End.

Based on one of the most beloved and enduring stage musicals in Broadway history, Wicked is the untold story of the witches of Oz, starring Emmy, Grammy and Tony-winning and Oscar®-nominated powerhouse Cynthia Erivo (Harriet, Broadway’s The Color Purple) as Elphaba, a young woman misunderstood because of her unusual green skin who has yet to discover her true power, and Grammy-winning, multi-platinum recording artist Ariana Grande as Glinda, a popular young woman gilded by privilege and ambition who has yet to discover her true heart.

With such positive reactions from the early screenings so far the excitement is building for this highly-anticipated production.

The premiere took place at the South Bank at the Royal Festival Hall.

Wicked will be released in the UK and Ireland on 22 November 2024

I do love this recent trend of ‘method’ dressing where each actor seems to be donning outfits similar to the characters that they play in the movies. This trend seemingly started with the Barbie movie but has since spread like wildfire across a variety of red-carpet events for film releases.

Wicked explores themes of acceptance and how society treats animals. The musical film has a runtime of two and a half hours with a second part due to be released next November.
