Going into this review I must confess my Star Trek knowledge is few and far between. I’m not a huge fan by any means.
I’ve seen the new films, I’ve weaved in and out of The Next Generation series and dabbled in suffering Star Trek: Nemesis.
If you’re looking for a character back story ladened review and insanely impressive knowledge of the Star Trek universe I’m afraid you won’t find it here.
I’m just a movie nerd looking to enjoy some quality Amazon Prime content.
Picard Episode 1 Review

Debuting on Amazon Prime today is Picard. Sir Patrick Stewart is back in the Star Trek universe 18 years later.
I must say this was quite the impressive first episode.
The show is fun with nostalgia crammed to the brim in the form of familiar faces along with winks and nods through this vibrantly rich storyline.
Episode 1 titled Remembrance starts us off 14 years after the apparent android uprising and the destruction of planet Romulus.
Admiral Picard is out of Starfleet and struggling with retirement.
He may be living peacefully but he is plagued with memories of the past. It’s in his retirement he meets a woman (Isa Briones) who is being hunted by unknown forces and has tracked down Pickard for help.
So much for a quiet retirement!

In a somewhat rushed decision, Pickard is soon back on board, recruiting a crew and breaking rules. This was so rushed.
Yes, he may have been unhappy in retirement but as soon as she arrives he may as well have run indoors, hopped and skipped upstairs and put on his Star Fleet uniform!
At least show some conflict or hesitation when making decisions Mr Pickard! Don’t be desperate now.
As it happens he seems elated to be back on the ship! In fact, it seems to turn him into the happiest he’s ever been which makes you wonder why he hadn’t come out of retirement sooner!
Watch Picard Episode One on Amazon Prime today!
The opening episode is packed full of emotion. Even thou the hop, skip and jump to being back in the business seemed quick there are some reflective moments.
One scene in particular where Picard is essentially just waiting to die in retirement is quite a tear-jerker indeed.
The opening episode manages to balance the nostalgia of what has come before it with a new direction and story.
Overall

Certainly, a series made for the fans. I did get lost in some places when it came to certain characters and backstories.
For those who know their Romulans from their Borg then you’ll be very happy with this very impressive first episode.
Like mentioned in the beginning, I’ve never been a huge fan of Star Trek but I certainly want to watch more of this one!
