John Cena plays a smokejumper (picture a firefighter crossed with a skydiver). A man who plays by the book, puts his career first and just can’t drop his guard.
That is until he gets stuck with caring for three children in this deeper than expected comedy.
John Cena gets his Kindergarten Cop or Tooth Fairy role in this movie as the wrestler shows a little bit more range than his usual muscle bound action extravaganza.
Directed by Andy Fickman and starring a plethora of comedy talent including Keegan-Michael Key, John Leguizamo and Judy Greer.
Tyler Mane also stars in this movie as this silent axe wielding giant, a little wink and nod to his usual horror characters with a sneaky twist towards the end of the flick.
Known as ‘Supe’ (John Cena) does what he does best. Saves lives and strives to the top aiming for a promotion.
When these kids arrive his eyes are taken off the ball dealing with the mess they cause but at the same time they also break down his walls piece by piece.
Opening himself up to the idea that maybe there’s more to life than just work.
There’s many an awkward scene between Cena and Judy Greer who plays Dr. Amy Hick, Jake’s (Cena) love interest in the movie. But it’s all rather charming. T
he film knows for the most part that its terrible but it makes up for it in cheesy moments and genuine heartfelt scenes.
The film is laugh-out-loud funny and is a film you’d watch with your family or even with a group of buddies over a few beers one night.
It’s the sort of disengage your brain and have a good time at the cinema flick and there isn’t many of those around lately.
Certainly a film aimed towards a younger audience (parents may get a little bored) but I enjoyed it at least.
Stay tuned for the bloopers at the end thou as I found them even funnier than the content of the film!
Summary
This film knows its not great but it approaches it with equal parts of laughter and heart.
You can’t ask for much more than that for a family-friendly comedy.
If it makes you laugh, even once, it’s done its job!
