Rebel Moon A Netflix Hit Despite Poor Reviews

Rebel Moon has landed as Zack Synder’s two-part saga becomes a Netflix hit despite having a rather dreadful 24% Rotten Tomatoes score this holiday season.

Ahead of the release of Part Two of this saga Rebel Moon, the film is a Netflix hit in viewership but unfortunately, it seems to have been lost on many of those who have watched it with a truly awful review score.

Rebel Moon became the most-watched title on the streaming platform during the week of its release on December 22 and Zack Synder was quick to social media to thank everyone for their support.

With movies such as The Super Mario Bros still in the top 10 and both of Netflix Christmas Chronicles proving to be solid Top 10 competition, this Christmas Rebel Moon was joined with other titles such as Leave the World Behind, Gran Turismo, Family Switch, Holiday in the Vineyards, White Christmas, Leo and The Christmas Chronicles II but still rose above every single one.

Zack Synder and Netflix are just the perfect match with his fanbase ready to lap up everything he has to serve up, long gone are the disaster days (Batman V Superman, anyone?) as this filmmaker is certainly finding his feet upon the streaming platform.

Not only did Rebel Moon beat out the competition but Leave the World Behind in second place was a few million views behind, it’s safe to say it’s been a great success in viewership it’s just a shame the film was a lot to be desired.

The official synopsis for the film reads as follows:

After crash landing on a moon in the furthest reaches of the universe, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a stranger with a mysterious past, begins a new life among a peaceful settlement of farmers. But she soon becomes their only hope for survival when the tyrannical Regent Balisarius (Fra Fee) and his cruel emissary, Admiral Noble (Ed Skrein), discover the farmers have unwittingly sold their crops to the Bloodaxes (Cleopatra Coleman and Ray Fisher) – leaders of a fierce group of insurgents hunted by the Motherworld.

Tasked with finding fighters who would risk their lives to defend the people of Veldt, Kora and Gunnar (Michiel Huisman), a tenderhearted farmer naive in the realities of war, journey to different worlds in search of the Bloodaxes, and assemble a small band of warriors who share a common need for redemption along the way: Kai (Charlie Hunnam), a pilot and gun for hire; General Titus (Djimon Hounsou), a legendary commander; Nemesis (Doona Bae), a master swordswoman; Tarak (Staz Nair), a captive with a regal past; and Milius (E. Duffy), a resistance fighter.

Back on Veldt, Jimmy (voiced by Anthony Hopkins), an ancient mechanized protector hiding in the wings, awakens with a new purpose. But the newly formed revolutionaries must learn to trust each other and fight as one before the armies of the Motherworld come to destroy them all.

Sci-Fi movies and me just don’t fit together at the moment, we had a marathon of sci-fi films this Christmas and my brain just seems to have checked out with even The Creator, one of the better sci-fi movies to be released in many years struggling to resonate with me.

Maybe I’m starting to slowly slide out of my interest in sci-fi as even the trailer for Rebel Moon didn’t feel new or original in any way shape or form and it seems as though I’m not the only one who thought that even after seeing the full film.

The Guardian made a perfect comment about the movie in their article and I couldn’t have summarised it better myself, they stated that Rebel Moon is just pieced together plot points from other, better movies with ‘glued together’ exposition. It’s as simple as that.

I’d avoid it at all costs but it’ll have its audience, the Synder-Verse is ever-expanding and so are the people who enjoy his work.

I respect that you enjoy it, but i’ll be staying in a galaxy far, far away.
