With Wes Craven’s estate now reclaiming ownership of Freddy Krueger and the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise we all thought another Freddy movie was on the way.
The franchise will return to the big screen one day but Robert Englund has confirmed he will not be donning the mask again.

In a mindset that seems to change every interview Robert is always going back and forth about playing the character or not.
One minute it would be his last appearance in makeup at a comic con and the comic con after that he was back in makeup.
The demand is far too high even now.
But speaking to Entertainment Weekly Robert said:
“I don’t think I’ll ever don the makeup again,”
“I’m a little too old for that. I’m a little long in the tooth to play Freddy now. I think if I was doing it, it would be more like Freddy vs. Viagra.”
“But I have no idea whether they’re going to go on and create completely new stories or whether they’re going to go back and do prequels or origin stories on the Freddy Krueger myth. I don’t know what they’re up to. So, I’m just waiting to hear,”
His last appearance as Freddy was on an episode of The Goldbergs. A really brilliant episode where Robert stole every scene he was in!
The fact he said in the interview that he’s ‘waiting to hear’ means he’s still interested in the franchise. This may just mean an appearance without makeup.
Much like the introduction of Freddy Vs Jason where he appeared without makeup in the opening scenes.
It certainly wouldn’t be Nightmare on Elm Street without Robert.
Look how the last one turned out!
In a few months, who knows, we may see another U-turn. Robert adores the character and it wouldn’t be right having another film without him.
There’s still plenty more of Robert to see thou as his upcoming series True Terrors will be coming to the Travel Channel this March!
