Netflix has an endless plethora of choice when it comes to movies of all genres but one genre that stands out most for me is horror. There’s just so much to enjoy on Netflix and we’re here to help weed out the underachievers. Here’s our choice of scary movies on Netflix that you should check out!

So here it is we’re diving right in with our 10 recommendations and we had no choice but to start at the one movie that completely changed the horror landscape as know it.
The Blair Witch Project

I mean how can you possibly go wrong with the film that started the entire found footage genre.
Releasing at Sundance in 1999 this was a breath of fresh air in the horror genre and various imitations and spin-offs in the found footage genre have been released for the last 20 years.
The OG of them all and the perfect example of how to make an effective found footage horror movie that still holds up and is a master in suspense to this day.
Knock Knock

Definitely, not your stereotypical horror movie but Eli Roth went with something different here and it paid off massively.
The premise is simple.
Married man Keanu Reeves gets a knock at the door and finds two beautiful women standing there claiming they’re lost and they need his help.
What follows is a nightmare that even he could not have imagined.
Knock Knock is the ultimate in twisted fantasy and the horror becomes apparent as the story continues.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one!
Unfriended

A horror movie for our modern generation as this 2014 film broke the mould in a new branch of horror, social media horror.
Told entirely through a MacBook screen a group of high school students find an otherworldly presence lurks within their Skype conversation.
Now you may have laughed at the premise but Unfriended certainly isn’t laughing.
It’s gripping, engaging and it’s a film that you can’t take your eyes off.
A film that once those credits roll will have you hesitating to check your next Skype or Facebook message.
The Conjuring

Going back to where it all began in James Wan’s horror epic based on the real-life cases of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.
The franchise has amassed $1.9 billion and shows no sign of slowing down.
The Conjuring movie started it all off and this incredible movie is not one to be missed!
Evil Dead

Speaking about movies that go back to where it all began, this is one original film you can revisit over and over again!
Sam Raimi’s original ghoulish classic sees our legendary lead Bruce Campbell coming face to face with reanimated corpses after reading from an ancient book of the dead.
Chaos ensues in this Cabin the Woods bloodfest.
Bird Box

Apart from its laughable ending Bird Box was a smash hit on Netflix.
Sandra Bullock is captivating from start to finish as a woman who survives the apocalypse.
The catch is that there are creatures outside that once seen by humans drives them insane and they end up horrifically dying.
Cue the blindfolds and this sensory deprived movie begins.
Also, keep an eye out for the one and only Machine Gun Kelly who was just starting to dabble in movies before he got the role as Tommy Lee in the incredible Netflix movie The Dirt.
Killer Klowns From Outer Space

Whilst only just scraping by as a horror movie there’s no denying the cult classic B movie that is Killer Klowns From Outer Space.
This low budget classic depicts an invasion from man-eating clowns.
It’s goofy, it’s bonkers but the creature effects, music, production and overall vibe you get from the movie is great.
I also love a horror movie that has some comedic relief to it, it breaks up the tension when things get a little much.
The Ritual

A group of buddies go backpacking through the woods after a traumatic event brought them closer together.
They seek refuge in an abandoned cabin after getting lost and stumble upon a religious alter that plagues the group with satanic visuals and psychotic nightmares.
With a great cast and a thoroughly engaging story from start to finish, The Ritual is a nice little English gem.
Gerald’s Game

A woman travels to a cabin with her husband to spice up their marriage but he dies whilst she’s handcuffed to the bed.
Now trapped and starving this adaptation of the Stephen King novel is a tale of suspense and Carla Gugino puts in a solid solo performance in this gripping suspense horror.
The Guest

This film is a Dan Stevens show from start to finish as he plays a vet who returns to the family of a fellow fallen soldier and becomes part of their lives.
Of course, he has an ulterior motive.
The Guest is a slow burn in parts but with some solid action shots and performances all round it’s well worth your time!
Check all of these out and more on Netflix today!
