Mark Patton stars in his own documentary as we give you our Scream Queen My Nightmare on Elm Street review.

In 1985, A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 was released after the insane success of the first movie. The movie was critically hated and then years later became a cult classic.
Many tabloids and reviewers labelled the first as the ‘gayest horror movie of all time’ and lead actor Mark Patton went from Hollywood stardom to vanishing without a trace.
Fast forward years later and this documentary explores Mark Patton and his experience of working on A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 supported by various cast members and crew behind a very unique film in the NOES series.
Mark Patton himself was secretly gay when shooting the movie and we deal with a variety of social and personal issues that Mark struggled with once the movie had released.
From start to finish there always seems to be a weight on Mark’s shoulders, a darkness, a sadness and it’s heartbreaking to see that even now years later there are certainly scars there.
We follow Mark on the road going to comic cons and signing autographs for die hard fans and get this behind the curtains look at the man himself.
At times the documentary does veer off with cheesy voiceover like a cheap infomercial but for the most part the documentary stays on track as we explore Mark’s relationship to the movie some 30 years later. A movie that more or less ruined his showbiz career.
The film then starts to explore homophobia and gay activism panning the spotlight on how the world has changed since 1985. I liked this, if you have a stage, own it, make your feelings known.
When the documentary concludes we’re none the wiser as to why the filmmakers explored such heavily homosexual content within the movie.
Scream, Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street certainly isn’t a documentary about The Nightmare on Elm Street 2 by any means.
The film merely tees up the documentary as the Mark Patton show from start to finish.
Whilst the documentary feels slightly light in places it’s still worth the watch if you’re a diehard fan of Nightmare on Elm Street 2.
