Sonic the Hedgehog 4DX Review

The Sega classic is now on the big screen and there’s no better to watch this movie than in 4DX.
From start to finish with a big smile across my face, this movie feels absolutely solid and if you love Sonic you’ll adore this flick!
Flying straight into the plot at 300 miles an hour Sonic finds himself hunted down and winds up on earth.

After living on earth for quite some time, Sonic is getting lonely. Forever just watching people living their lives without so much as living a life of his own.
A chance encounter with Thomas Wachowski (James Marsden) has them become buddies and on the run from Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey).
A man who the government has hired to track the source of a mysterious power outage caused by our little blue devil.
Thrusting Sonic into this live-action world really is incredible. Never take this film too seriously. Ever.

The film is tongue-in-cheek containing references to pop culture and celebrity references including Keanu Reeves, Vin Diesel and even Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
With humor for adults as well as children, everyone will have a good time at the cinema with this one!
Paramount Pictures has put some serious dedication into this movie to make it feel cared about. After fans complained about the original Sonic design they didn’t hesitate to change it.
The studio has created a big studio movie with heart and that’s rare nowadays. This attention to detail and sheer immersive brilliance shines through from start to finish.
As soon as the movie starts you are swept through at a rapid pace and before you know it the credits are rolling and you don’t want to leave.

Jim Carrey has been sorely missed. This was a role he was born to play. Channeling Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty and Riddler Esque comedy, everything just feels amazing.Carrey puts on an absolutely breathtaking show that outshines James Marsden and even Sonic himself in every scene that he finds himself in.
This fun-filled adventure movie is nothing short of incredible although it does have its flaws. One niggle that I had with the plot was when James and Sonic are on the run James’s character is labeled as a domestic terrorist. There are news stories and a manhunt for him yet he’s still able to walk into shops and buildings with no one batting an eyelid.
Without spoiling the end of the movie too much the domestic terrorism is just waved away as thou it never happened. Quite a large plot hole that’s for sure!
Sonic 4DX Experience
Second only to The Lion King the 4DX experience for Sonic was remarkable. Every whoosh of Sonic’s run had the wind in your hair.Every explosion felt through the seat and even a hilarious scene with a turtle had me laughing my head off whilst feeling every motion of sonic’s run.The wind blasts past your ears with every gunshot and everything is perfectly choreographed to what you’re seeing on screen.4DX certainly came into its own with this showing.I haven’t seen a film as immersive as this in 4DX since my first ever screening. It really was incredible.
Whilst I absolutely loved the 4DX the guys over at Nerdreactor had other thoughts. Check out Nerdreactor’s Sonic 4DX review.
Overall

Giant plot hole aside I was smiling from ear to ear throughout.
I had an absolute ball watching Sonic!
The effects, the comedy and the outstanding performance of Jim Carrey all combined to create arguably my favorite video game adaptation movie.
I only wish it lasted longer.
With the movie ending how it did, don’t be surprised if you see more of Sonic in the future.
