The Light Cinema in Stockport Is Now Open For Business

The Light Stockport

Last night was the public opening of The Light cinema in Stockport at the Redrock development.

The Light Stockport

Back to the Movies was invited to come along to the grand opening to check it out!

The Light Cinema in Stockport

Situated a stone’s throw away from Stockport train station this beautiful 10 screen independent cinema is a sight to behold.

I was honoured to be one of the first inside it before the doors opened to the general public.

The cinema chain was started in 2011 by Keith Pullinger and John Sullivan in New Brighton on The Wirral and has gone on to become one of the UK’s fastest growing independent cinema chains.

The Stockport site is currently its eighth site in the country with 13 more cinemas planned to open in the next two years.

In addition to that, The Light Cinema has also signed up to be a part of the upcoming Unity Walk development in Stoke on Trent.

This development will be bringing an IMAX cinema to Stoke (here’s hoping) making it the first IMAX cinema in the whole of Staffordshire and bringing in much-needed business to the local economy.

Take A Look Inside

You can see a lot of love has gone into the design of this theatre.

It has a classical feel, that old retro cineplex vibe that has sadly all but vanished in modern times.

There are pies being served that are sourced from local sources, beer being served from a local brewery and a cafe’ serving locally made cakes.

The cinema is a pillar of community spirit and with the addition of a cafe’ serving a whole host of food. It’s not just a cinema, it’s a gathering and celebration of all things local. People, food and cinema all intertwined in a family-friendly environment.

Scattered around each screening room was mood lighting strips that reminded me of some futuristic sci-fi spaceship console and seats that auto-recline dependent on how far you lean back. The second I sat down it was damn near impossible to find the energy to move again.

Every screen had this cosy, comfortable and homely vibe.

There was adequate room between the seats. Your knees aren’t resting on your chin throughout a movie which is a bonus.

There’s loads space to stretch out and relax.

Every single seat in the auditorium had a clear unobscured view of the huge screen in front of you.

With such holiday movies coming up as Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Pitch Perfect 3 it’s the perfect place to go and check out the latest blockbusters.

Overall

The Redrock development is on-going but is really coming along nicely.

Lovely restaurants and an ever-improving landscape with a beautifully designed cinema at the very heart of the development. It just feels right. It doesn’t feel corporate or intimidating.

The Light cinema fits in snuggly and feels very welcome upon your approach to its lovely glass doors.

Roll out the red carpet and get yourselves down to The Light Cinema in Stockport this holiday season.
