The Tetrastar Spaceport experience at the National Space Centre is celebrating its 10,000th flight as this unique mix between theatre and the Star Tours ride at Disneyland combines for a very unique and immersive UK experience.

Futuristic set design, actors and a screen-based motion ride simulator combine and have celebrated its 10,000th run-through!

With a throughput of 1400 people a day, this is fun for all the family welcoming guests into this hour-long experience.

What I enjoyed the most about the experience was the fact that you were walking through various sets and interacting with them. From a boarding gate before starting your flight to hopping onboard a craft for travel to another planet and then through various onboard space decks for a fun-filled experience.

The attraction design and creation was led by the National Space Centre’s in-house immersive production studio, NSC Creative, working collaboratively with a team of UK experts.

Paul Mowbray, Director at NSC Creative said:

We’re experts at audiovisual design, projection mapping and things like that, but we don’t know how to make a spaceship, so we worked with Meticulous, a local company on the theming and the detailed design, we worked with Simworx for the motion seats, and we were able to take that dream, that vision, and make it concrete.

We were able to create this world, this built environment that people walk into and gasp when they see it.

The National Space Centre has released a behind-the-scenes video on the creation process for this immersive theatrical experience as creatives discuss how the attraction went from concept to launch.

Aaron Bradbury, Creative Director at NSC Creative said:

I’ve worked on Tetrastar for several years and there have been so many lovely moments seeing how people react to things, seeing how school kids come in and are running around like crazy trying to do all the challenges that they do, and seeing people react emotionally to it. It was a wonderful project to work on as well as doing wonderful things.

Simworx has developed a lovely ride system for this attraction and whilst it’s not as immersive in terms of its movements as Star Tours, it’s more than good enough for the attraction it resides at.

It’s a little unknown gem in the UK and deserves your attention as the UK has its very own piece of Disney magic with a Star Tours ride of its own.
