The Craft Legacy Review: A Feature Too Broke To Be Woke

A movie that wasn’t needed after such an incredible original film, it seems that remakes, reimaginings and reboots aren’t stopping anytime soon especially now with the future uncertainty of the film industry, we bring you The Craft Legacy review.

The Craft Legacy Review

Churning out any product linked to a solid movie of old in the hope that it will attract a new audience and make a quick buck.

I introduce you to The Craft Legacy.

Receiving a last-minute digital release after the closure of cinemas during the pandemic the original story of The Craft is continued for a new generation.

The Craft Legacy tells the story of Lily (Cailee Spaeny) who moves with her mother (Michelle Monaghan) to live with her boyfriend (David Duchovny) and his three sons.

What follows is a truly shocking David Duchovny performance throughout that is as wooden as a vintage church door who is projecting strong ‘male power’ vibes throughout as the movie is more focused on appealing to a new generation audience than making a genuinely enjoyable film.

With all important topics including racism, LGBTQ+, sexism and gender equality all covered I can’t help but feel as though this film is trying its hardest not offend anyone in their mission to appease every corner of society.

Craft Legacy Cast

The Craft Legacy was one scene short though however as I was half expecting a vegan-friendly character to pop up and ram their dietary lifestyle choice down my throat at any given moment.

A movie made for those who are offended by the word ‘moist’ and old Friends re-runs I certainly lost interest very early on and that’s before the shocking surface level storyline glossed over just about every major plot point.

From the second we’re introduced to Lily a certain event happens at her school where she is comforted by three girls, Frankie (Gideon Adlon), Tabby (Lovie Simone) and Lourdes (Zoey Luna).

All of a sudden it becomes apparent (without explanation) that Lily has a gift and that she must join the three girls to practice witchcraft.

We don’t go on a journey of Lily discovering her power or the gradual stages of building up her power we’re instantly shown cut scenes of them performing magic and dodging just about any opportunity to dig deeper into the script.

Craft Legacy Witches

Whilst the original movie can be criticised by having two men write a story about teenage girls, this movie can be criticised by a woman on a crusade of man-hating and gender politics.

I’m all for telling a good female empowerment story but not at expense of dumbing down or enhancing negative stereotypes of the other gender.

Not cool at all.

Why can’t there just be a balance?

Embracing female power is a strong motto of the story but at the expense of highlighting toxic masculinity and sexism.

Rolling my eyes at just about every scene pandering to a certain audience it just felt more like a direct statement than a genuine feature film.

Mixed with David Duchovny’s character who is just about the dullest male on-screen with monotonous lines of sleep-inducing quality I can’t think of too many highlights of this preachy woke-worshipping spectacle.

Craft Legacy Feature

If there was any saving grace of The Craft Legacy I did rather enjoy how all four girls interacted.

Whilst their friendship went from strangers to ‘I love you’ in a matter of minutes in a rushed frenzy, I rather did enjoy the banter and the camaraderie for a fleeting moment.

I’m sure beyond all the convoluted nonsense that there is a coming-of-age story in here somewhere but it’s certainly not a story I was invested in or had any interest in except for the final scene.

Throwing in an epic cameo twist to end an otherwise poor movie was a nice touch as a wink and nod to fans but only served to remind us that many, many years ago a much better movie with the title The Craft does exist and I instantly went back and watched the original to divert my eyes from the torture I had just witnessed.

The Craft: Legacy is available to download and keep from Thursday. If you want to check this movie out for yourself then you can purchase HERE

Summary

Flying past at a breakneck speed this surface level supernatural drama has me questioning if watching Twilight for the second time wouldn’t be a bad decision after all.
