Our first experience of Disney+ and what an introduction as we bring you our very own The Imagineering Story review.
A peek behind the creative curtain of Disney. Get an all-access pass to the magic and wonders of the Disney theme park attractions.
The Imagineering story explores the creation of Disney’s dream as Disneyland comes to life right before our very eyes.
With the first episode diving into the legacy of Walt Disney, the documentary combines interviews with former and current Imagineers with archive footage of Walt himself.
The opening episode contains bundles of various construction footage of the Disneyland park. Watch the park come to life piece by piece, brick by brick.
If you’re a theme park enthusiast you’re going to go absolutely mad for this documentary. From behind the scenes construction and plans for some of Disney’s most iconic rides the documentary allows you to watch the magic unfold in ferocious detail.
The Imagineers are named as a cross between the imagination and engineering department. Disney proved time and time again that they were the boundary-pushing creators that just couldn’t be matched by the industry.
Through taking risks that no one dared to do to creating technology the world had not seen. The Imagineers catapulted Disneyland head and shoulders above the competition with immersive experiences.
What this documentary does perfectly is capture who Walt Disney was as a man and a leader. The influence that he had on the park and even the mark he left behind after his death resonated throughout the company.
One minute we’re in the art department and the next we’re inside a new attraction being pieced together. The show combines storytelling with engaging never before seen footage that has me eager for more.

I’ve never personally been to Disneyland but after watching the documentary I want nothing more than to visit! I’d love to jump on Space Mountain or take a look at the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. It would be interesting to compare it to the archive footage I saw in the documentary.
The Imagineering Story doesn’t serve as a history lesson (we’d be watching forever). It serves to amplify the fun whilst staying informative to the parks and wonderful man who made them.
The opening episode looks at the creation of Disneyland and the financial struggles that followed after the impact of WW2. The introductory episode also outlines the chaotic opening day of the park and how Disney managed to steer the ship in the right direction.
With episode 1 being the more business-minded episode the second episode becomes much more fun. Infamous rides such as Space Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Matador and The Haunted Mansion are all explored in 2nd episode.
From the dining table scene in The Haunted Mansion to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride animatronics we see how they’re created. The effects, the animatronics, the artwork, set design and more. It’s an enthusiasts dream unfolding before their very eyes.
It’s so interesting that a company like Disney was the first company to really pioneer these animatronics as they brought inanimate materials to life.
Overall
The Imagineering Story takes you on a journey of Disney like never before.
Go behind the scenes of the Matador ride and find out if there really is a basketball court inside the ride.
You may just learn something even if you’re a huge Disney nut. I had no idea that Bob Gurr had to learn trigonometry on the job to design a rollercoaster. The wonderful Mary Blair who had poor eyesight designed It’s A Small World. Xavier Atencio who had never written a full script before came up with the infamous lines from some of the most iconic rides in the park.
The Imagineering Story allows you to watch the magic unfold right in front of your eyes. The perfect blend of archive footage and interviews leave you hooked from start to finish.
