Moscow City Ballet Presents The Nutcracker At The Regent Theatre

The Nutcracker At The Regent Theatre

Here at Back To The Movies we are getting into the swing of this theatre business and we’re going to have a crack at unexplored lands – ballet!

At the Regent Theatre the Moscow City Ballet bring to Stoke one of the most beloved and iconic performances in theatre and music. Brought to our humble city we have a full orchestra accompanied by a traditional Russian style ballet.

The Nutcracker is a very familiar tale created in 1892 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The very same man who also created Swan Lake (1876) and Sleeping Beauty (1889). It’s mainly used in the modern age for it’s infamous and incredible classical score from Tchaikovsky.

The Nutcracker

The performers on the stage were near perfect aside from two small mistakes with a performer falling over and a piece of cloth stuck to one of the flowerpots at the end of the second act. However, they’re purely passionate and bursting with talent and you can tell how they were on stage.

Showering the audience with energy each dance segment got its worthy and lengthy round of applause. It’s ridiculously engrossing watching the carefully choreographed delicacy within the performers matching to what was an absolutely on point orchestra.

The colour and costumes flourishing from the stage is a stunning spectacle to behold.  The dances between Clara and the Nutcracker Prince are a firm highlight showcasing absolute strength and precision with their chemistry intact.

The stage is incredibly basic but it allowed the dancers to embellish their performances. There were very few props aside from the last scene. The backdrop is quite fitting as it looks like a drawing from an old styled childrens book.
