This was an announcement that come as absolutely no surprise to anyone as Paramount Pictures has announced that Top Gun 3 is now officially in the works.

ReIgniting the park that catapulted Top Gun Maverick to the tune of $1.5 billion at the worldwide box-office the time has come again for Hollywood to keep the sequel gears turning and try to churn out another box office success.
With reports first published on The Hollywood Reporter they state that Top Gun: Maverickco-writer Ehren Kruger is working on a script, with director Joseph Kosinski set to return for a third film.
Whether Paramount intends to bring back Tom Cruise alongside his new flight team is known, what is also unknown is confirmation of who is attached as far as cast is concerned but having Miles Teller and Glen Powell back on the big screen would be the logical option to continue the story along.

The sequel has been in development and under-the-radar since last year and was in motion before Tom Cruise made a ‘non exclusive’ strategic partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery.
This partnership with Warners is certainly a head-scratcher because Tom’s last movie with Warner Bros was The Edge of Tomorrow and this particular deal in no way ties him down to a Warner Bros exclusivity contract.
Tom can do as and what he pleases and will continue to make Mission Impossible and the most recently announced Top Gun 3 with Paramount.
Rumours of tensions between Tom and Paramount have always done the rounds around big shoots with Paramount not being kept in the loop on certain discussions, last-minute film changes on the fly which weren’t disclosed and other things have all been doing the rumour mill rounds for some time.
Monica Barbaro (Phoenix)Clearly, that isn’t much of an issue here as the relationship with Cruise and Paramount continues to be fruitful in the box office and he can still work with them as much as he wants despite this new deal penned with Warner Bros.
Top Gun 3 is not set to take off for many years with Tom tied to the eighth Mission Impossible movie currently which has been delayed as a result of the writer strikes.
Whilst corporations and box office numbers certainly don’t lie in terms of the popularity of a particular franchise there is such thing as franchise fatigue and a third Top Gun movie really doesn’t sit well with me.

The sequel to Top Gun was years in the making as much love, care and attention went into its execution to prove that sequels aren’t just a mere cash grab, there was heart here and lots of it and now suddenly a third film is greenlit months later with little to no space in between?
If they make a great movie then sure that’ll be watched, loved and appreciated but it all just feels like it’s going at Mach 1 speed with this one and that usually spells disaster when it comes to sequels.
Whilst seeing large aerial battles on a big IMAX screen is the stuff that filmmaking and film-watching dreams are made of it just feels like this film is not one that anyone really asked for.
We were all happy with the sequel, ecstatic even to have a film as good as its original (a rarity nowadays) but Top Gun 3 already has a ‘handle with caution’ warning on it before they’ve even begun.
